I assumed that declaration was after assessing the fitness of Elder and Wilson, and us being forced into choosing whether to play Thompson (who should be playign CM) or Forsyth (who Warne had penvilled in as a CB option) in that position instead. Changing to a back 4 arguably would have fixed that, but the injuries to both RWBs has forced his hand into looking for another wing back again. The other option would have been to settle with Smith and Rooney covering RB (in a back 4) until Ward/Wilson are back, but that would leave us short at CM again.
