FIVE-TIMES world champions Brazil could play in Derby next month.

The Derby Telegraph understands Pride Park Stadium, the home of Derby County, is in the frame to stage Brazil's international against Ukraine on Monday, October 11.

The Rams are favourites to be hosts although the club would not comment last night.

Brazil are no strangers to playing in England.

They have played five times at the Emirates, the home of Arsenal, in the past four years, where they have beaten Argentina, Portugal, Sweden, Italy and the Republic of Ireland.

They also name strong teams for friendlies which could mean the likes of Kaka, Robinho, Maicon, Lucio and Dani Alves running out at Pride Park.

The five played against the Republic in March, as did Julio Cesar, Ramires and Adriano. The match attracted a gate of 40,000.

The one senior international played at Pride Park was England's victory over Mexico in May 2001, when 33, 597 watched Sven Goran Eriksson's side win 4-0.

Brazil are due to play a friendly against Iran in Abu Dhabi the week before they face Ukraine.

The Rams have paid tribute to Derby City Council, who played an instrumental role in the bid to bring the fixture the city.

Derby County CEO Tom Glick told dcfc.co.uk: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Derby County Football Club, we are immensely proud and it is a real opportunity to showcase the city of Derby and what a fantastic venue Pride Park Stadium is to the whole world.

"I'm delighted for the people of Derby and Derbyshire that we have been able to secure this game and give them the opportunity to see stars of the football world in a full international fixture at Pride Park Stadium.

"I would like to thank Derby City Council for supporting our bid to secure this match. We will be attracting football fans from all over the UK to Derby for this game as well as a worldwide live television audience who follow The Brazil World Tour."

Councillor Harvey Jennings, Leader of Derby City Council, also told dcfc.co.uk: "This is really exciting news for football fans and for the city as a whole.

"To have world class players at Pride Park really puts the city on the footballing map and gives Derby residents a chance to see some international quality football on their doorstep.

"The Council fully supports the event, and if successful, hopes it can be something that we get involved in again in the future."

The game has been arranged in association with Swiss-based football rights agency, Kentaro.

Kentaro's Chief Operating Officer, Jonathan Hill, commented to dcfc.co.uk: "We were hugely impressed by Derby County's ability to react very quickly to this unique opportunity and we are pleased to be able to confirm the fixture and the presence of the full Brazilian Team."
