Thing is, take Torres, Gerrard and Reina out of that side and it's incredibly mediocre, and Torres doesn't look that bothered at the moment anyway.

Feel sorry for Hodgson, thought this was his big break and it turns out that it's a step down from Fulham! :D

If Torres and Gerrard were as amazing and consistent as so many writers and pundits keep saying they are, they would be no where near this situation.

Gerrard played ok today but I think he has just lost a lot of interest, because he has carried Liverpool for the last decade and hasn't had the chance yet to playing alongside any other "world class" players other than Torres.

As for the club, they really need to hope Hodgson is going to pull something out or they're going to have a difficult time finding a replacement. Also the **** is going to hit the fan about their debts very soon as the Americans are forced out and they come under new ownership.

If the likes of Torres, Gerrard, Reina, Glen Johnson and Joe Cole leave a sinking ship, they could easily be the next Leeds. Their odds for winning the title are 100-1 and their odds for getting relegated are 18-1. It genuinely is a bad time for them at the moment.

I just saw the highlights. He looked good. Well done Reg.

At this rate we might make a profit out of a PJ signing. Who'd have thought it...

I would of thought a fee may already have been agreed when he moved.

After Liverpool's shock home defeat to Blackpool ,

Manager Ian Hollway thanked Roy Hodgson for making his team feel right at home,

by fielding 11 donkeys on the pitch!!

LOL :)

Reg played well, but IMO Glen Johnson is a very poor RB. He is OK going forward, but defensively he is not good.

BTW, Dario Gradi recommended Varney to Holloway during a pre-season friendly at Crewe.

Liverpool are to be sold to the owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

But the takeover by the New England Sports Ventures (NESV) is subject to the resolution of a legal dispute with US owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The Premier League, who have refused to comment at this stage, will also have to approve the latest American buyout.

Earlier Hicks and Gillett tried to sack managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre in a last-ditch bid to keep control of the club.

In an attempt to block any sale and regain control of the crisis-hit club, Liverpool's much criticised owners tried to replace Purslow and Ayre with Hicks's son, Mack Hicks, and Lori Kay McCutcheon, a vice president at Hicks Holdings.

Hicks and Gillett are understood to have argued that the club's English directors were not acting in the best interests of Liverpool and that the NESV bid - as well another undisclosed offer from Asia - "dramatically undervalued the club".

Dramatically undervalued, according to their valuation. Which no-one has come anywhere near meeting. Meanwhile, the clock's ticking on the club's RBS loan repayment deadline, they've got until 15th October to make a significant repayment otherwise the bank will apply a £60mil penalty charge to the loan. The favoured bid, by the Red Sox owners, will pay off the entire debt apparently, thus removing the threat of the penalty charge.

And Hicks and Gillete accuse the board of not acting in the club's best interest? There's a reason why people say American's don't understand irony.....

The new group seem to have the right attitude, and at least have an appreciation for a fundamental tenet;

From an interview with Martin Broughton;

He added that NESV was a "serious investor" made up of "serious investors", who ran a number of sports ventures.

"If you look at Boston Red Sox, they have taken a team which was a major traditional team, previously successful team, not at its peak, and resuscitated it to be a winner," Mr Broughton said, saying NESV was "all about winning".

"They understand that winning on the field helps them win off the field, it makes their investment more attractive. They have a track record to deliver, to prove it."

Shame it took so long for the penny to drop with our lot..... :rolleyes:
