GRIMSBY'S famous fish and chips are the best in the world.

We've always known it but now it has been confirmed. North East Lincolnshire is the fish and chip capital of the globe.

The incredible accolade has been handed to the region by online travel website Booking.com, which named Grimsby and Cleethorpes' trademark dish on the list of the 15-must try places to experience some of the world's favourite foods.

Grimsby is joined on the list called the Foodie's Guide To The Globe by the likes of Brussels, Tokyo and New Orleans and points out where is best to sample foods like pizza, chocolate and seafood.

A tourist is in East Midlands and one Saturday decides he would very much like to go to a football match, so he asks a man in the street if there are any local matches being played that afternoon. "Well," replies the man, "the Derby County ground is very close but they're playing away today. If you feel you really must see a match, the Nottingham Forest ground is not that far away. You go straight down this road and you'll see two queues, a big queue and a small queue.
You should go to the small queue because the big one is for the fish and chip shop.

There are loads of different awards for chips shops. How many times do you see chippys with awards on the wall or window.

The Sea Fish one in Ripley won (or came second) in a national competition the other year. It's not even the best chippy in Ripley.

Like chips, these awards are best taken with the pinch of salt.
