Wednesday 25th June (Tonight) 9pm Forum Server Move

Day

Recommended Posts

As you may have seen the other thread I was planning the server move on Friday, as I will be busy I have brought the date forward to tonight. New server has just been purchased and tonight at 9pm.

It's a fairly quick process moving the forum across, what takes the most time is the domain DNS being updated, this is all down to your own Internet Service Provider.

To get back online quicker you can use Google DNS, to do this follow the instructions on this page.....

If there are any problems I will update our Facebook and Twitter pages, if you need to contact me you can talk to me on Twitter using my personal account as I have notifications on for this.

Microsoft Windows

  1. Go the Control Panel.
  2. Click Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Change adapter settings.
  3. Select the connection for which you want to configure Google Public DNS. For example:
    • To change the settings for an Ethernet connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and click Properties.
    • To change the settings for a wireless connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and click Properties.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  4. Select the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties.
  5. Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select Use the following DNS server addresses. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server or Alternate DNS server, write them down for future reference.
  8. Replace those addresses with the IP addresses of the Google DNS servers:
    • For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4.
