QPR cost cutting

Two seperate stories about QPR in today's Mirror, the first one is about QPR cutting costs........

Air Asia tycoon Tony Fernandes has stunned his Queens Park Rangers players by flying them out for their pre-season tour... on budget airline Easyjet.

The move shows just how far the Hoops are going to prove to their pampered stars that their lavish lifestyle of recent seasons has come to an end following their relegation from the Premier League.

Harry Redknapp’s men flew Easyjet to an airport in Slovenia, then took a 30-minute coach journey to the Austrian base where they will prepare for their first season back in the Championship.

And it is understood only club staff were granted ‘Speedy Boarding’ access onto the Easyjet flights.

A private jet for the same group direct to Austria would have cost QPR just £5,000 more, but it is a measure of Rangers’ determination to reinvent themselves as a more prudent financial outfit that they decided against it.

While some players were surprised by their pre-season travel arrangements, it is believed the majority of the squad took the changes in good spirits.

Chairman Fernandes has maintained since QPR were relegated in May that they will no longer be held to ransom over player salaries, transfer fees and agent payments.

Chief executive Phil Beard recently vetoed a move for 32-year-old left-back Wayne Bridge, because he believed the overall package to sign the defender on a free was too expensive.

Since going down, QPR have moved to slash the wage bill by triggering pay-cut clauses in players’ contracts.

They have also sold defender Chris Samba back to Anzhi Makhachkala for the £12million they spent on him in January, paid off another big earner in striker Djibril Cisse and are listening to offers for a string of other stars.

the second one, well, judge for yourselves..............

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is ready to sign Burnley hot-shot Charlie Austin in a £2.5million deal and pair him with Gary Hooper.
The Hoops are finalising personal terms with Hooper after agreeing a deal worth up to £5.5m with Celtic. Hooper is looking for around £40,000 a week.

I like the first part, that's good. Change in culture needed there.

Second part makes me think they need to get rid of their manager and get someone else in to complete that process. You don't need to spend £5.5m on a striker to get you out of this league, you really really don't.
