Shuff264
Quartet pull on their boots again to re-join Derby for pre-season training. Derby County’s international players today reported back for pre-season training after being handed an extended summer break. Republic of Ireland international trio Richard Keogh, Jeff Hendrick and Conor Sammon, as well as Jamaica forward Theo Robinson, were given two extra days off to rest up after being on international duty in early June, after Derby’s first-team squad returned for pre-season training last Thursday. The quartet have established themselves on the international scene with their respective countries during the second half of the 2012-13 season. Manager Nigel Clough says the quartet will have no problems with their fitness levels compared to the rest of their team-mates due to the fact their seasons were extended, and they pulled on their boots once again on Monday morning at Moor Farm Training Ground to get straight down to work. Clough said: “They should slip straight back into things to be honest and they won’t have to do anything extra to catch up fitness-wise, as they were still training and working until three weeks ago. “They won’t have lost too much fitness during that short period of time and we expect them to slot straight back in. “What’s important in the coming months is having a breather during the international breaks if they can but, we would presume, they’ll get called up again so we’re going to have to make sure we keep a close eye on them. “It’s a great honour for us, and them, to get international recognition and we’d never tell them they couldn’t play international football, but it does take its toll. “I don’t think it’ll be a problem this season, but if for example Ireland qualify for the World Cup next summer and our lads are with them they’ll have worked for virtually a year non-stop, but we’ll cross that situation if it arises.” Valentin Gjokaj, who was on international duty with Albania’s Under 21 side during June, opted against having an extended break and reported in for pre-season training at the back end of last week.
