  1. I said Warne is closer to McCarthy than McClaren. Are you saying that statement is wrong? I’d like to see the evidence that shows Warne prefers flair over physicality.
  2. It will be interesting to see the type of player Warne wants. So far our signings under him scream physicality, which in fairness we did need after being a soft touch at times last season. But next season, we will need more control to compete. Trying to just outwork and outrun teams at Championship level won’t work, but I’m sure Warne is aware of this having been relegated with Rotherham twice playing that way.
  3. The original point I made was that more physical sides are better at set-pieces than technical sides. For some reason you claim this is drivel when it’s pretty evident, especially outside of PL level where the riches allow Liverpool and City to have players who possess both. Warne evidently favors physicality over technical ability. The reason why Adams looks technical is because he is playing a league below. Derby’s players are better than most at this level, regardless of physical attributes. Adams didn’t cut it at Championship level with Cardiff yet League One appears a breeze for him. Warne has succeeded by getting us to at least match, often overcome the opponent’s physical attributes while seeing our higher individual quality come through. We have won countless games this season just through individual quality - the sort of quality the opponents don’t possess. At Championship level we won’t be able to rely on that, because with a lower half budget, we’ll likely come up against opponents of better individual quality.
  4. Luton have done pretty decent too. But you are looking at only a few examples over the past 20 years or so. There are far more examples of technical teams progressing and achieving success than physical. Ideally you would like a blend of both. I think McClaren initially actually saw that weakness from Clough’s side and thus added height/strength in Thorne, Wisdom, Whitbread and Keane.
  5. So you think we are more of a technical side under Warne than a physical one? At League One level we simply have better players than the rest. Yet largely we still don’t dominate possession and play through teams. That’s not a bad thing. Warne will get us promoted this season, no doubts, and he deserves credit for that. But claiming his style of play is more technical than physical is just laughable.
  6. It’s difficult to be a good footballing side and good at set-pieces, especially outside of PL level. I don’t mean this in a trolling way, but we were never going to be a good set-piece side under the McClaren days when we had decent footballing players like Hughes, Ward, Bryson, Dawkins, Russell etc. We simply didn’t have the height or physicality. But you look at cloggers like Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich and of course they looked far more dangerous at set-pieces. We know Warne is more McCarthy than McClaren. We know Warne will favor physicality over flair. So it’s refreshing to see us become decent at set-pieces, but no doubt it will come at a cost of flair, technical ability and fluidity on the ball - especially at Championship level when we get there.
  7. Forest getting less points than last season despite the league being easier is just bonkers. I had them down to win today. Still think they will beat two of Burnley, Sheff Utd and Chelsea mind. So another 7-8 points seems realistic. Luton need to win 3 games to really put the pressure on.
  8. Corner County 3-0 Leyton Orient That was a decent all round performance. And as expected, rivals dropped points elsewhere. The draw at Wycombe was a good point. A win at Cambridge and Carlisle will be a big party.
  9. Derby have been excellent today. Best home performance in months. Elsewhere, it’s a shame Posh look done. Ideally we want them to have something to play for against Bolton at the end of the season. With a fixture pile up, you can see them resting all their better players against Bolton for the playoffs.
  10. I have zero confidence in Warne being a success at Championship level. I don’t think he is at the level of Nigel Pearson, let alone a Bielsa or Farke. And as Derby aren’t going to have the biggest budget in the Championship, far from it, we’re going to need somebody great to ultimately have us challenging at the top of the table. But maybe Clowes just doesn’t want to take the risk. Maybe keeping Warne on a moderate wage and surviving in the Championship with a bottom half wage budget is enough to make profits provided 25,000+ fans are willing to suck it up.
  11. Nice of Liverpool to supply Atalanta with 11 cones and their own stadium to do some midweek training in England.
  12. Just looked at Posh’s fixtures. Wow, from the 29th of March to the 27th of April (last game) they will have played 9 games. They have 5 games in the next 17 days. They will be burned out.
  13. I didn’t see anything of the game so can’t comment on performance. But a point isn’t a bad result at all. No way do Posh and Bolton win all their remaining games (stating the obvious as they play each other) but neither will claim maximum points. 3 wins from the next 3 and we will go up in 2nd place.
  14. I’m not watching. The xG says Wycombe 0.21 - 1.39 Derby Shots actually has Wycombe ahead by 6-5. Did we miss a sitter or two?
  15. I think the worst part is that along with diving, it isn’t instinctive so it evidently must be trained. But you can see why players do it. The reward far outweighs any potential punishment, which in most cases the harshest being a yellow card where 95% of the time they go unpunished.
  16. Madrid vs City was a bizarre game. It wasn’t full of chances, yet there were six goals. All 3 of City’s goals were long rangers, while Madrid scored two deflections (one another long ranger) and a world class volley from a guy who has only scored two all season. I think the xG was like 0.85 - 0.92 when the score was 3-3. Bayern and Arsenal was actually the more open game with better chances created. Still, great entertainment. These big CL games back in the mid 2000s were 0-0 or 1-0 cagey affairs.
  17. Unfortunately Forest have a lot of winnable games coming up. Burnley, Sheff Utd and Everton away, plus Wolves and Chelsea at home. I think they will get another 10 points. I don’t see Luton getting any more than 6. Luton gave it a brilliant go but they dropped some easy points by losing at home to Sheff Utd and squandering a 3-0 lead at Bournemouth.
  18. This IMO is a great video and method of training which makes it enjoyable and will motivate you to do more. Consistency will always win.
  19. 9 points will be enough to go up with a better GD. Bolton aren't winning 4/4. The next week will seal our fate. Failure to win either game and we'll be in a spot of bother. The Wycombe game is almost a free hit.
  20. Derby are still in a far stronger position than Bolton. Not only do we have a point advantage, we have easier games and a better goal difference. Even if we lose to Wycombe, Bolton will drop two points somewhere and if it comes down to GD, we'll be fine as we'll probably add another +7 (at least) from the final three games. Bolton won't be +8 over the next four games. No chance.
  21. He was happy enough to sign a £350k a week contract though. Rashford is another talented player who has a huge spotlight on him because he plays for Man Utd. He is paid far above what his ability represents because he is at Man Utd, and he is regularly talked about as some kind of elite player because he is at Man Utd. He is a decent player, but no better than say Raheem Sterling.
  22. It’s a good job I’m 8 hours behind UK time so just managed to see this now.
  23. Sums up both teams. There is individual quality, but they are all over the place in terms of structure and control. It’s great for the neutral.
  24. Vydra wasn’t good enough. He had one decent half season when Rowett could get a tune out of him but was subsequently mediocre for the rest of his time here.
