DissRam
Definitely not. People live their life by their religion, I don't live my life by football and I certainly don't worship the players or anything at Pride Park. Plus people would die for their religion, but I'll be honest there is no chance I'm dying for Derby County and truthfully not many would I would wager. There are other reasons as well I just can't be bothered to type them out, it is Sunday morning after all.
McRamFan
Some interesting articales if you type it into google (other search engines are available) http://www.ytouring.org.uk/productions/fulltime/education/Lessons/PDF/Lesson5RE.pdf scroll to pg 3 http://www.hackwriters.com/footyjj.htm and he is a hack as his opening paragraph is plagurised from the PDF above! http://www.providence-ebenezer.org.uk/article.php?id=football-the-new-religion

However there are still a lot of similarities between football and religion in that the fans make up rules which the club don't provide. Some people do to a certain degree worship their club and whilst its unlikely someone will pray to Derby County when in a bad situation, there are people who base their self esteem on their teams performances. The other similarity is that in tribal football, everyone outside the club is regarded as a threat. Except in religion, the people think outsiders are going to hell. Boycie
Well, you can get married at the ground. You can offer offer money for the collection. You would dream of missing the service. Most of the things you get told never happen.
MuespachRam
No, because football is based on something tangiable, something that is real, not a made up fairy tale akin to the harry potter books that millions and billions of people believe in blindly with absolutely no proof it exists at all. (but i think there are a lot of aliens in football too)
