Day
DERBY County Reserves moved up to second in the totesport.com League Central Division after a deserved victory over their Sheffield Wednesday counterparts. Conor Doyle's goal after half an hour settled the match at Stocksbridge Park Steels' Look Local Stadium yesterday afternoon. The Rams could and should have won by more as they created a string of chances but they did enough to take the three points and leave winless Wednesday rooted to the bottom of the table. Derby named nine players who started the totesport.com League Cup tie against Rotherham United last week, including first-teamers Gareth Roberts and Russell Anderson. Defender Mitch Hanson, on the way back from a serious knee injury, came in for triallist Euan Holden, while winger David Martin was replaced by second year Academy scholar Aaron Cole. Fourteen-year-old striker Mason Bennett was named among the substitutes. http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/sport/Rams-climb-table-Doyle-hits-target-score-winner-Wednesday/article-2804511-detail/article.html ------------------------------------- Just 14 years old, came on as well in the 71st minute, where has this kid come from?. Stimacked
Mason Bennet is with the Rams U15s now I believe. He won the Academy Player of the year last season ahead of a host of scholars on the clubs books. He is obviously continuing to make progress and it was probably a move to give some of the other fringe U18 scholars a wake up call that they need to get there act together if they want to have a chance of a pro deal. http://www.dcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10270~2039180,00.html

Perky1106
If he's good enough to play for the reserves at 14 then he's got to be a prospect.

ramsrock
probably Lee Holmes? thought he was going to go on to greater things. would be nice to see a striker come through the ranks and become a 1st team regular for us.
Day
From Wiki: "Holmes made his debut for Derby on Boxing Day 2002 against Grimsby Town to break the club record for the youngest player aged just 15 years and 268 days" Can't believe he's still only 23, seems like he's been around for years. Lee only played for the reserves a couple of times before he made his debut. He certainly didn't play for the reserves when he was 14.
