MorecambeRam
Stephen Pearson was today set to resume full training with Derby County after four months out of action. The mid-season signing from SPL giants Celtic in 2007 underwent knee surgery at the start of May. Last season the 27-year-old made a career-best 39 starts in all competitions, playing the majority of the campaign on the left-hand side of midfield. His performances were rewarded with a new contract at Pride Park until 2012, and manager Nigel Clough is looking forward to having Pearson back in his ranks. Speaking to dcfc.co.uk, Clough said: "Having Stephen back in training is a massive boost for everyone. "We've been saying for some time that we feel the system we play will suit him down to the ground. "He is a naturally fit lad anyway so it won't take him long to get up to speed, and if he comes through today's session with no problems he could be in our thoughts to be on the bench at Barnsley tomorrow." Physio Neil Sullivan has worked alongside Pearson every step of the way of his rehabilitation programme, and he has praised the way the former Motherwell player has remained focused to return on schedule. He told dcfc.co.uk: "It's all down to his hard work. Every single day he puts a shift in and he has worked really alongside the rest of the injured lads, who have all worked exceptionally hard." http://www.dcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10270~2156555,00.html
