Hughes was substituted during the second half of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship encounter at Reading. After the game, stand-in Rams boss Chris Powell revealed the 21-year-old had felt a twinge in his knee, so was taken off as a precaution. Now he has returned to Derby and will undergo treatment with the club's medical team during the international break. Tottenham Hotspur's Josh Onomah has been called up in his place. England Under-21s face Kazakhstan away and Bosnia & Herzegovina at home as they look to secure qualification for the European Championship finals. Derby goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell remains in the squad, having been called up for the first time.
