plymouthram
they are like derby except they have DEFENDERS , simple as that reallyTheir 2 centrebacks have played together in all 45 league games this season. That does help having a unchanged settled defence
plymouthram
Totally shows the importance of beating the teams that you should. Watford comfortably beat the bottom half teams and earn a point on average in the others. For instance we failed on so many occasions to pick up the 'easy' points where the others (Watford, Bournemouth, Boro and Norwich) succeded.Home games; Wigan, Millwall, Birmingham. 2 points from 9 available.Away games; Millwall, Huddersfield, Rotherham, Brighton, Fulham, Leeds. 3 points from 18 available.5 points from an availble 27 is nowhere promotion form, that's relegation. For direct comparison, Blackpool's results for the same games gave them 6 points from 9 at home and 3 from 18 away.Derby collected 5 from 27, Blackpool 9 from 27. Even if we matched Blackpool, the extra 4 points would be so welcomed! Most of them away fixtures are recent games where we had a big chunk of 1st team players injured. Also a back line which chopped and changed due to injuries and out of form players
Ram@Lincoln
Most of them away fixtures are recent games where we had a big chunk of 1st team players injured. Also a back line which chopped and changed due to injuries and out of form playersEvery team has injuries and out of form players to contend with, that's football. Yes we've been unlucky but you build a good squad of players to combat that. The quality of depth that was supposed to be there now under McClaren just didn't show itself. People moaned about lack of squad depth under Clough, he didn't have it, yet under McClaren there is squad depth and it didn't work. Our squad is vastly superior to the likes of Blackpool, yet they still manage to get nearly double the points tally on us against teams we should beat week in week out. As people have already said, this was complacency at its greatest by the players, management and fans."We know we're better than you, so we'll just turn up and win." Football simply doesn't work like that...
cloughandtaylor
The quantity of squad is there, unfortunately the quality isn't, but hey we've got what we've got and we have to get on with it.
