RodleyRam Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 The actual role of the captain is fairly arbitrary in football for me. I think if you're a senior player, you should lead, end of. That said, within the game a lot of emphasis is placed on the captain and the stabilizing impact of him retaining his place. I think fundamentally you have to weigh up the negative impact of dropping your captain vs whether he's costing you points. All in all Keogh didn't play that well on Saturday. However, the 4 games prior to that we didn't concede a single goal. Dropping him after one bad game, whatever you think of his overall capabilities is probably not the right way to approach it. I'm not convinced he's a great captain but no-one took responsibility on Saturday, he was one of 11 players who didn't really get to grips with the game in the second half.
