Very sad news and shows the despicable nature of some fans.Their is no place for violence in football or really any sport.I for one detest hooliganism and those that take part in it,especially if it involves violence.Banter is fine between opposing teams imo as long as some barriers, mainly violence, are not crossed.

Here is a great article about hooliganism around the globe: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/dec/19/football-violence-view-around-world

I feel that violence against other teams fans is just crass and immature.I understand if some may have a different take on the subject than I and that is fine. Thoughts?

I watched this documentary "Football Fight Club" on Bbc Iplayer the other day. It focused on you football fans aged between 17-24, who are involved in youth firms looking forward to the fights on match day rather than the match itself.

That link won't take you to the documentary but it should still be available on Iplayer for anyone.interested in watching.

Anyone who participates in football violence should be jailed, not just banned, even if its the first time they get caught.  Upon release they should be not allowed out of their house on any match days, and tagged for 5 years.

So the same applies for anyone that gets in a fight then? What about an attack on a innocent person on a Saturday night? Death sentence?

Will someone think of the childen.

I said participates, not got dragged in.  If you are attacked and defend yourself it is different from willing participation, organised violence.  As 'organised' violence results in the innocent ones being dragged in to it.

I am thinking of the children as they are he ones that are 'recruited'.  If there was a harder line on organised violence be it gang or football, then the lure of it would be diminished.
