Derbyshire CCC in 2014

Biggest win by runs in County Cricket history supposedly.

I think it's a typo, meaning Derbyshire's biggest win. Hants defiinitly beat Essex by 470 runs earlier this year, here's the scorecard.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/o36875

And, it says in the report of that match,

'It fell 13 short of the record of 483 runs, set by Surrey against Leicestershire at the Oval in 2002'

So, 3rd highest in the Championship, unless there are some in between. Quite an eventful match, with a 'handled ball' dismissal, and a century in both innings for Slater.

Here we go,

From 2003 Wisden

Largest Championship wins by runs

483 - Surrey beat Leicestershire -  2002

470 - Sussex beat Gloucestershire - 1913 (Gloucs made 66 & 80)

*470 - Hampshire beat Essex - 2014

429 - Kent beat Northamptonshire  - 1933 (Northants made 92 & 46)

423 - Lancashire beat Somerset - 1911

419 - Somerset beat Kent - 1937

408 Derbyshire beat Leicestershire - 2014

It would take not a little research to find out if there were any others between 419 and 408, but definitly not the highest in history.

Do we really need a lead of 520? I just hope there's enough time to bowl them out, the pitch can't be that bad.

Just over a session was enough time to bowl them out.

Just thought that I'd resurrect this, seeing as how Martin Guptill is returning for Derbyshire, be it only for the early season.

Those who have seen him play at the County Ground before in Derbyshire's colours will no doubt be as excited as me.

Agree with you on this one, good pedigree and successful in previous seasons. Was also interesting to hear that he in on the edges of the New Zealand test team so has something to prove.

Would love to sign another bowler though as I still think we are one short, particularly in the 20 20 format.

Chesney scored a ton against Worcs the other day, that will probably be him done now for the season , did virtually nothing last season apart from that double early on , shame really because he has everything needed , maybe apart from concentration to be brilliant. , fingers crossed for him this term , hope he smashes it .

Despite being a fan, I think I am one of have few not expecting a great season this year. I think it's disruptive to have multiple overseas players rather tha one who is consistently here all year around. We only have Guptill for three county matches, and although he may do dwell in those three games it's disruptive to have players come in and out. If Dilshan does come in earlier, then that may be a help but I cannot help but feel that it's a Chanderpaul in the making. The name is huge but what will he deliver on the county circuit?

So onto the team, it follow the Derbyshire blogspot and he said something which I thought summer up Derby well. We only have three players currently nailed on in he heir positions - Guptill/Dilshan, Madsen and Footitt. This means the remaining players are not yet good enough to be called a certain starter.

kids are not good enough to win it and I don't ever see Slater or Godleman being good enough and consistently enough to lead. Hughes has one good inning in five and Durston is the most consistent thirty player I know! Looking forward to seeing Thakor play though and I think he will bring some real talent.

Bowling wise, after Footitt do we have enough to bowl sides out for 200? Will White, Palladino, Taylor, Cork be competent enough? I don't see it. We still don't have a specialist spin bowler (Wainwright hasn't featured much pre season) and I worry in heat department. Behind the stumps, I want to see a wicket keeper contribute more with the bat. I don't see Poynton or Hussein giving me that.

So all in, I think 20/20 gives us our best chance of success. With the signing of the second overseas it shows commitment, and passing the captaincy onto Durston is a great move. We have players this season who can make more of an impact in Hindus competition and we have some power from players who can knock it over the ropes. Looking forward to it although EB still don't know how to put on a decent 20/20 format in this country.
