davenportram
rather small in comparison to the UK's actual debt of 1.2 trillion (1,200.000,000,000), interest allone is £40 billion a year. But we are not talking debt we are talking funding (or cuts) that would need to be found (or made)
Rev
Doing my bit to reduce the deficit by smoking and drinking as much as possible, and what thanks do I get?
Grimbeard
Firstly, taken at face value, reasons given for the closure include the significant increase in elicit trade i.e. sale of illegal or counter band cigarettes. I hope all of those people bumping their gums on this are not the same ones buying their fags off 'the back of a lorry' or sneaking a few extra through customs when returning from the Costa Brava?! Firstly, buying from a shop doesn't guarantee that the fags or baccy is genuine, plenty of fake and contraband tobacco has been found in legitimate stores. Secondly, it's the punitive taxation that has fueled the rise in the illicit trade.
