Nice one Maff.

It's hard to try and understand what you go through without going through it yourself, i have never been a gambler but i can imagine the devastation it can leave.

I worked with someone who ran up a £10,000+ debt with online casinos!!!.

Respect my friend, keep up the good work.

Since I last had a bet, for those who know my addiction, I'm proud to say I've achieved that. A day at a time, sometimes even an hour at a time especially when I first stopped. Gamblers Anonymous saved my life and improved it immensely.

For those of you that's struggling with gambling or think it's a problem. Get yourself to a meeting. Best thing I ever did.

Grats buddy! Keep it up and never give in! Can I ask what sort of gambling it was? FOBT machines? Sports? Casino? etc

Just gave it a good read mate, really puts it all into perspective. Congratulations again as I believe this to be the worst addiction possible. I nearly fell into the trap myself by the going to the casino most nights but eventually realised that losing felt worse then what winning felt good.

thankyou for reading really appreciate it. With regards the addiction, I do feel it's a tip of a iceberg moment. Much easier to gamble than say five years ago.

Just read your blog Mafia - well done to you.

How easy is it these days though, as you say, adverts half time on the telly - celebrities telling you what the odds are - you can bet on a gnats fart these days. Online bingo - free bets to get you started.  Surely, we are heading for one massive problem in the near future.

Well done buddy, superb effort.

Yeh with all the ads going around, it must be tough not to take notice.

It's tough once you get going to stop... Even if you win more than you lose, the moment you think it can become your number one source of income is the moment it fecks your life up.

Bookies aren't stupid either, if they see you winning all the time they'll just ban you anyway.

If you went to Las Vegas mafia, would you have a night out at the casinos?

I know I'm never a minute away from a bet, but as long as I had broken the links in the triangle, time opportunity and money. I would think I would be mature enough to not bet, but I can't see myself going there to be honest. I can never say never regarding a bet. Hope that made sense?

It is going to be, but I don't blame the gambling industry, after all it's people livelihoods who work within it. I blame myself for getting addicted. I think of myself as lucky as there wasn't as much going around then as there is now. So easy to bet on anything anywhere anytime.

Congrats. As they say, seven years is a good start...

Interesting line. Why so?

Have you heard about positive addiction which we all have as a innate trait?

edit. Quite personal so it's ok if you don't want to answer!

Just got blinkered and would wake up thinking about what to bet on/chase losses and not worry about anything else. Gambling was what mattered most, no one else got a look in. First thing I thought about when I got up, last thing I thought about when I went to bed. Very progressive, I was a young starter with regards gambling and had control I.E. Always budgeted and if I couldn't afford it I didn't do it. I got internet set up in my home and had opportunity to bet 24/7 and within 2 years I blew 60k. Had far too much time on my hands, and just lost all reality with it. Hope that helps with the question?

Partly it does yes.

But I don't completely agree with you (that it would've been your fault only.)

There's sooooo many factors and few of those you can't do anything about... At least IMO.

I do agree there's a lot of ways to gamble nowadays especially, but in simplistic terms for me, I was the one putting the cash on etc. That's why I blame myself.

Well done on your 7 years ans good luck with your continued fight.

I am lucky as in i've never had a additive personality and was also very ignorant and dismissive of those that did get hooked on stuff, Be it gambling, Booze or drugs.

But after seeing a couple of close mates go through similar things and seeing one lose all he had worked for over a 30 year period, I can see how real a problem this is for some people and congratulate anybody that can battle back and keep fighting their addiction.

So for you it's a "disorder of choice"?

Whatever you're doing, you're doing it right as you don't gamble anymore!

I was brought up with gambling, so you kind of do what your family did. If you see what you mean. And thankyou!
