I haven't seen either of theses photos before, Davenport.

The top one is very early. Leys Malleable castings in the forefround and an uncovered popside on this side of the pitch. The Ossie End is on the right, the Normanton end on the left and C and B stands opposite the popside. Whether they were actually called those names in those days I don't know.

The area around though was well developed. I suspect this was between the wars but nearer WW1 than 2.

The pitch looks OK in both!

The second shows C and B stands with the Normanton End in the background. My bet would be in the 70's given the full house. I seem to recall that we did have one or two games when bands played at half time and before kick off - the match day experience of its time and something that Stuart Webb was introducing

Miss the place so much.

Always go for a random drive down there, it's sad to see it all turned into a housing estate.

Last game vs arsenal was a very sad day

I agree 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> .

second thoughts on the date though. The Offilers Ales sign on the roof pre dated the then new Ram sign that came in when BC was in charge I think. That was early 70's. Maybe this was end of the 60's when we were about to go up or very early 70's

The second one was 69 according to the site i got it from.

the first picture is a lot earlier - i think the stands were the ones transferred over from the racecourse ground around 1900, its not the two tier normanton end because, that got built after the Ossie end.

its also not B and C pavillion either because that was built in the 20's i think. Until then the players came out at the Ossie end of the ground (think the white building was the changing room.

i have seen one picture with no stands at all

Hi Gritstone

Yes I do, though in Ben Rhydding rather than Ilkley itself. We moved here about 2 years ago, just down the road from Burley as you know. I will keep a look out for another blck and white scarf!
