The Big Sammon Thread

Are you seriously trying to suggest that the higher level of player the higher his comments are likely to be ranked..

Someone mention Jose Mourinho, I could tell you thousands more..

Or shall we all just listen to Paul Ince, given that he's top of the pile when it came to playing so his judgement must weigh far more than the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Tito Vilanova and Andres Villa Boas..

Again, that;s not what I'm saying at all. That would be way too general. You  guys fishing for rows on here have a great way of twisting words.

I'm talking about this specific case. Where some guy aged 30+ having never made a name for himself while playing the game comes out and criticises someone who has. It's cheap shots from a no mark. He's never even been able to hold down a regular starting spot in his own side.

Here's a useful tip to Alan Cawley, stop hammering others and work on your own game.

To be honest as well I'm tired of getting into posts every couple of hours having to explain that I'm not saying he's a world beater.

Others can complicate the points as much as they want.

The main point of my "argument" is based on one simple sentence which I will stand by.

Conor Sammon is NOT a useless footballer. Useless implies he can't do anything useful at all. It's too extreme and it's wrong.

Conor Sammon plays for Derby County. I am a Derby County supporter ergo Conor Sammon gets my support.

Twist away with everything else and bring Paul Ince into it if you want. i have no idea what Paul Ince or Jurgen Klopp think of Conor Sammon.

If and when Paul Ince or Jurgen Klopp comment on Sammon I'll let you know what I think of their views.

But I don't understand you're thinking.. He might be some 30 year old guy having never made a name for himself but so was AVB and Tito Villanova..

You can't throw someones comments away just because they've never played the game.. I've never played to a pro level but by some of the comments I hear and some of the comments I read I honestly think I know more about specific football related topics than someone who has 300 career games in the top flight under his belt..

Who cares if Alan Crawley has never been any good at football.. He's allowed to voice his opinion and I'm sure many will agree with him.. If we're going back to that Jamie Ward comment then seriously don't read anything into it.. You'll be hard pressed to find more than 5 comments in world football where a player calls out a team-mate for being crap.. I once had a conversation with a footballer about another player who literally offered nothing, asking why the manager insists on playing him, and the footballer came out with a load of tosh (even he knew what he was saying was tosh) just to protect his team-mate..

If you want to criticise Alan Crawley for voicing his opinion despite being a poor footballer himself then you mayaswell rubbish everyones comments on here.. Including mine.. Sammon is a far better footballer than me, but as far as professionals go, he's average and shouldn't be in the first 11 of a side aiming for promotion or aiming for the WC

Bloody hell - what bed worrit?!

It's a Hastens. 6 grand plus a small top us cos the bed was just under 7k.

I only agreed to give her the money cos I played from 8 in the evening until 6 in the morning to win. I woke her up  sneaking into bed so she punched me. Then I told her I'd won the tournament she punched me again and uninstalled the poker software!

It must have been one of their cheap and nasty versions cos the guy who sold it to us was looking down his nose when we didn't buy the one costing nearly 20k!!

We like our sleep. If there was a world cup for sleeping I'd win it hands down.

Poker is my life, this is what I want to do, Im dedicating my life to making this work.

No I didn't miss that.. You're entitled to your opinion..

You just rubbished someone else's opinion based on their footballing status.. Which IMO is wrong.

Call him wrong for other reasons or debate your point.. But you can't rubbish someones opinion based on their status... It's the same on here, where people think their opinions weigh more because they go to the games rather than someone who doesn't..

Are you in profit since you started? I read somewhere that there's not many who make a living from online especially.

My online game changed totally when I found a site where I chould check my own stats. What kind of tournaments I lost the most often etc.

It really made me focus on one type of tournament. Dropped the sit and goes and the omaha and concentrated on getting in the money more often and not just playing for the hell of it.

Only ever played live in three tourneys, won 2 and finished third in the other.

I'd love to take a punt on poker as a way of living but don't fancy the insecurity of giving up my business to do it.

Bris I've debated my point on this and other threads. To the point where I'm annoying ladyram and I can't believe that's ever going to be a good thing to do.

I debate a lot if what I say gets read. To go back over those points is as ladyRam mentioned going round in circles.

Perhaps I should have left Alan Cawleys career stats out of it but it was to try and show how ridiculous it's getting if people are looking for quotes from part time footballers to try to prove something that can't be proven. I mean come on who exaclty is Alan Cawley and why do his views count? they could have just come on here and taken our fans opinion of him and quoted that.

Nothing more to say on Conor Sammon or other peoples opinions of him for now. The second anyone posts that he';s either a) awful or b)useless or c) a donkey, I'll have to correct that.

Average, hard working, limited, disappointing, frustrating, over expensive.

They are all words that can be used about one of our own players without insutling him and without lying about his ability.

I could really understand it if he didnt try or if he was an arrogant piece of work or someone who didn't give a rats bum and was only here for the money.

I see qualities in him when he pulls on that Rams shirt that make me want to support him.

Since I've focussed purely on MTTs, which was the start of 2013, I'm about $100 in profit, was about $1200 but on a downswing at the moment and lost quite a bit last couple of weeks. Average field size is 1000+ runners so obviously huge variance and swings. I'm still making mistakes and need to put in more time away from the tables. I've been pretty close to some big scores but not won the coin flips when you need to.

I play live for the bigger tournaments at my local casino, won quite a few, standard is so poor even an online fish like myself can make money. Playing a £110 up there Saturday night I expect, just introduced a new schedule so will probably play live a bit more.

I realise the chances of doing this are about 0.000001%, the standard online is so high only the real sickos are making decent money. There's plenty of them but they work really hard and put in ridiculous volume. This summer (before my last year of uni) I'm gunna dedicate serious hours to my game and see what happens.

You should go for it EastKent. Otherwise you'll regret not trying.

keep an eye on your stats at sharkscope.com, it really does make sense to see if there's a particular buy in level you're good at.

It'll also help you be reasltic about how much you're spending.

Before I knew that site existed I was convinced I was in profit overall. A few 700 quid wins, one at 1500 quid or so and I thought I had it cracked.

I was actually 3k down over the three year period. I'd been playing so fast and sometimes 4 tournaments at a time.

Sharkscope slowed me down and made me focus only on the 10 quid buy ins.

Nice to see that outside of our totally opposite views on football on here we've actually got something in common. I love the game and wish I had more time to give it a real crack.

Good Luck with it!

Yep, I've had my account since I was about 15 (not in my name) and used to play a bit when I was younger, not very successfully. I only started playing again last September and have been learning ever since. On Sharkscope after 2448 games Im £278 in profit, so I suppose that's some to be pleased about, in such a tough game. I prefer to track myself through OPR which only tracks tournaments with 45 runners +.

My bankroll management is quite good, I'm gunna have a few day break if todays another bad day. I've done about £700-£800 last couple of weeks, which is only a smallish percentage of my roll, but too much to lose for a student like myself. Got a few areas of study I need to work on.

The trouble with Leeds Ram is that Sammon plays out his skin for the last 5 mins of each half.

And he misses it.

Oi! It was a Friday night game and VDT!

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, surprised you noticed in ya wannabe Tom cruise glasses.

He is retired now and played at the same level as Jamie ward with his one appearnce for Sheffield Wed, and also has a league winners medal :-)

I would also like to point out that I did not use his quotes to prove he was a poor average or good player, just that having a football brain, does not make anyone an SME in their view of a player. It was you who used wards quote as something that should be held in higher regard than others.

i mean according to lee croft a fly can be suspended in mid air at the North Pole, or something like that, and he played for man city.

Old yes, achy I wish.

With a 6 month n 3 yr old in tow, when I do get out I'm ready for bed by ten!

I despair when I see the youngsters of today playing on Xbox instead of a good night on town, serveral pints washed down with a kebab, jealously will get me nowhere :-(
