The Late goal effect

Looking at late goals we have conceded 5 in the last 15 minutes of matches and scored 4 in the last fifteen minutes.

We have also scored 4 in the last ten minutes and conceded 4 in the last ten minutes.

In terms of points won or lost in the last 15 minutes we are at break even (-2 against Wednesday and -1 against Bolton and Burnley against +1 against Wolves +2 against Ipswich and +1 against Blackburn)

In the last 10 minutes we are at +1 (due to Boltons second goal not effecting the result)

I have counted the Middlesborough as an overall net effect of zero because we both conceded and scored in the last 10 minutes. It could be argued that conceding their goal cost us 2 points but equally because they scored first our goal won us a point. But goals during the last 10 minutes didnt change the result

An improvement on last season - but without conceding the goals in the last 15 minutes/10 minutes of games we would be in the top 4. So it is an area that still needs improving

Games we have conceded late in

Bolton - 2 in the last 15 minutes (1 in the last 10) -1 points

Wednesday - 1 in the last 10 minutes -2 points

Burnley - 1 in the last 10 minutes -1 point

Boro - 1 in the last 10 minutes - no effect because we scored too

Games we have scored late in

Wolves - 1 in last 10 minutes - +1point

Blackburn - 1 in the last 10 minutes - +1 point

Ipswich - 1 in the last 10 minutes - +2 points

Boro - 1 in the last 10 minutes - no effect because we conceded first (could be argued a +1 point for getting the draw back)

You could do this for any 10 minute stretch of our matches and it would produce a different league position for us, doesn;t really prove anything in my opinion.

The fact that we are scoring and conceding probably proves that it is not a fitness issue.

The games are 90 minutes (plus stoppages) long and all goals count the same no matter which minute they are scored in.
