Barnsley FC v Derby - Match Day Thread
IlsonDerby replied to Heisenberg's topic in Derby County Forum
This assumes that our comments on here are a reflection of our support at the match. I don’t think Warne as a manager will be successful long term for us. I think eventually given enough chances he’ll get us out this division because that’s par for our wage bill etc. beyond promotion though I just simply don’t see success moving forwards. We will be buried in the championship if we approach games like we do down here. That doesn’t stop me singing about Paul warnes barmy army at the game regardless of my personal view about his suitability. That doesn’t stop me thinking he’s probably a great bloke but preferring a great coach instead. -

This isn’t true though. A win against a direct rival is much more valuable than a win against the cannon fodder lower down as you guarantee a rival gets 0 points. -

Never been more convinced that Warne is the wrong manager for us as I stand here freezing my toes off. Will get behind him and the team at every game as per but my god he needs to be doing better against these teams. Barnsley are not as good as mid table champ teams and we haven’t laid a glove on them bar some set pieces -

Only one team looked like taking this game. Ain’t us. -
Would I enjoy going for a pint with Warne? I think so. Do I enjoy some of this football? Nope. You’d like to think people can see past some of the performances over the last 2 years when judging his character. He seems like a genuinely decent bloke.

Rooney 😡😡😡 !!! Football would have been woeful but at least we’d have been selling these lads for big money under Cocu…

Bagged again for Preston last night. 4 goals and 2 assists in 600 minutes of championship football this season. 25 now so will be entering his prime in a few years. Another solid league career from one of our academy lads?

Look at how he words what his brother is in prison for. Tells you all you need to know about the smarmy fake-intellect throbber. Absolute cretin.

I still don’t get how Sibley managed to squeeze that in haha. Thank god he did. I’ve now accepted that we are going to play sh1te football and am enjoying the goals as and when they come. It’s been a relief for me. Up the rams. One more weekend of results like today and it’s in our own hands!! -
For an individual match? Yes. If you’re looking for patterns more longer term ie - is this good run sustainable or is it relying on clinical finishing that is unlikely to keep up its current rate? alternatively after a bad run of results : are we that bad or have we genuinely been quite unfortunate ie keepers playing blinders against us or strikers hitting worldies. performances always tend to regress to what the underlying stats are saying.

This is revisionism. At times we over played it but it was abysmal finishing which ultimately cost us under Rosenior. You stick this seasons Collins into that side rather than the Collins from the start of last season and we’d have probably been fourth or higher by the time Warne got the job.

Collins injured - were doomed! unless it’s Warne playing his mind tricks again like with NML on Tuesday. couldn’t pick a worse fixture for a improvised forward either - their cb is rated second behind Cash on whoscored -
Wayne Rooney massive bellend subbing him on and off again in the same game.

Wasn’t he just asked what chances they created with the passing? Can’t believe how hard it is for some of our fans to admit that Exeter played nice football and did create decent opportunities against us just because we play dull (albeit effective) football. -

They created only 2 shots on target against arguably the best defence in the division… Against lesser defences there’d be more coming from that football. -

Thinks it’s wrong to say we didn’t deserve the win. We did. 3-0 probably flattered us as contrary to what some on here would have you believe they didn’t ‘pass without creating owt’. They had a number of good chances. We had more good chances. I guess when it comes down to it us having better players mattered when it came to those chances and it led to an enjoyable performance. -

As I mentioned above - their shot goes in rather than hitting the post and we have to come out a bit more leaving more space. Us going one nil up allowed us to stick to a game plan and execute it perfectly but at 0-0 they looked better than us. We relied on a piece of magic from Bird. They don’t have a player anywhere near as good as Bird. You replace their CB with Cash, their midfielder with Bird, their forward with Collins and get them to play that type of football and it’d be very very effective whilst looking easy on the eye. We did well but as mentioned it I had to choose a type of football I’d enjoy theirs more over a season particular with our squad ahead of theirs. -

Football matches last the best part of 100 minutes. Our goals combined took about 8 seconds to score. It isn’t weird of fans to focus on the other 99 minutes of the match otherwise why not just switch on the highlights an hour after it’s finished? It’s frankly ridiculous to suggest they were doing pointless passes. They were getting it through the lines well but didn’t have the quality to do anything with it. Remember the difference in the first half is Max Bird wonderfully dribbling past 4 players before pinging it in from 20 yards. They crafted a well worked opportunity for a shot from 20 yards out and it came back off the post. I enjoyed the win but to say Exeter weren’t playing good football is just disingenuous. With better players that type of performance gives us a hell of a lot of problems. Luckily for us we have better players as you’d expect with our budget. -

Yeah he was playing a bit like he wasn’t 100% so wasn’t surprised he was taken off at half time. Why is it so controversial to acknowledge that Exeter knock it about really well and were playing the better football? Our higher quality showed over the 90 but imagine what it’d look like if they had our squad/budget and were coached to play football like that? We played really well on the break. -

I think ultimately due to the NDAs we’ll never know how much SP just accepted what Mel was doing vs whether he pushed back. Think the amortisation stuff is a bit harsh to beat him with. He found a loophole within the rules at the time and exploited it as many curly haired prats from Tyneside have done with tax losses previously. I also think unless he knew that Mel was planning on stopping funding us and placing us into admin that he was working within the budget set by the owner. I just can’t imagine DC keeping him around if he was guilty of anything really bad.
