  1. I don't like the rule and would rather go back to 3 subs.

Money is such a huge part of the game these days and now, with this rule it can give well funded football teams an advantage during the football match.

Chelsea must have between 30 and 40 players who cost over £10 million each... Luton have an average squad.

If Luton are lucky enough to get to the last 20 minutes at 1-1 against Chelsea, their players may start to tire, none of the players on their bench are better than the players they have on the field.

Chelsea can look to their bench and bring on better players than they already have on the field, bringing 3 on would have been a big advantage in itself but to be able to bring 5 on could totally change a game, it's like a cheat mode on a computer game.

It may not effect us as much but teams who get relegated from the Championship to League One may well have big squads and ultimately a better chance of picking up vital points late on in games using 5 subs to help them get back out of this league.

  2. IMO it's very easy to motivate the players when you are expected to lose, we see it in the FA Cup every year, a non league team will knock out a league team etc, I would say Rooney did a good, average job here.

While he was here he went out binge drinking or something, so that and the way he used to dress like a teenager with his baseball cap etc, not exactly the kind of person you want the youth team players looking at as a role model.

He was average in the MLS, if Birmingham give him money to spend, I think he will be another Lampard in that he'll spend a lot of money, do a decent job but everyone will label it as a brilliant job just because he's an ex player.

Maguire has been fine tonight but his last game for England against Scotland cost us a goal. He shouldn't be starting.

    100%,

Players should be picked on form.

I had a chuckle the other day, I read that Jadon Sancho would be looking for a January transfer in order to 'get first team football and give him a chance of getting in the England squad' next summer.

He has only got to look across the training ground to see Harry Maguire who gets in the England team despite barely playing a game 🤣

I'm not a fan of Gareth, he's done a good job but I firmly believe a lot of other managers would have done too given the players at their disposal, over the past 2 years the pool of England players has grown in depth, all over the pitch, lots of those players will develop and get even better.

The next 5 years should be very exciting for us England fans but with Gareth's constant picking of the out of form Maguire while ignoring the inform Raheem Sterling makes me doubt that someone who isn't choosing players on form and clearly can't manage something in Raheem Sterling's personality has the know-how to guide us to glory.

The choice of penalty takers for the Euro Final against Italy shows he wasn't aware of how the youngsters would cope with the nerves etc but of course Gareth wouldn't know that as he didn't regularly compete for or win major trophies as a player or as a manager.

To kick on we need a manager with a bit of personality and charisma, not a media darling and to be honest I can't think of a single English manager out there who has those personality traits let alone experience of competing for big trophies.

    what are those positives?

Still having a club considering how worried we all were 18 months ago.

For some people that's the most important thing, I started going with my dad and grandad, when my grandad died it was just me and my dad, before I was born my dad used to go with my grandad, now my dad is no longer with us and my daughter comes sometimes, when you're board at half time waiting for the second half and you think about the good times your family have had at the club, it kind of puts it into perspective.

For me still having a club to support, carrying on the family tradition of supporting Derby, hoping my grand-kids will also continue it - is more important than winning promotion. (don't get me wrong I would love to get promoted)

  5. This was always going to be a tricky game.

A team who could not get any worse were at some point going to come alive and start playing for their new manager.

We are a fragile team, we can do well but we always give the opponents a chance.

We didn't replace the goals of David McGoldrick with a like for like forward which means we are unlikely to outscore teams often.

The squad we have this season is a mid table team unless we can add one or two quality players.

  6. I think the reason we don't see the type of football that we used to see in the olden days is money related.

Back then, there would be 22 players on the field who were decent footballers but without a big gulf in class between them, now you have more money involved in the game so on a regular basis you are facing teams who have either spent more than you or less than you, a player may be less likely to express himself if he knows that the opposition are more likely to punish him if he makes a mistake.

It's just interesting that after a half decent result yesterday afternoon we didn't see reciprocated the same number of threads starting with I know there's already another thread on this subject but......

As a log time viewer I've noticed that a lot too, the same happens on many other clubs forums but then there are some clubs whose forums seem busy when they are doing well quiet when they are not doing very well.

    The reasoning:

If you are a club who has a decent squad, your fans are expecting you to get results, so they will naturally moan if their expectations aren't met, we have several very good players at the club which is bound to raise the expectations.

If you are a club who are err, 'punching' and doing well on a smaller budget, your fans are more patient and don't moan because they understand the players/management will already be down at a bad result.

Our relegation from the Championship is a good example, despite losing and getting closer to relegation, fans tried to remain positive and supportive of the players and management.

Personally, I'm patient, things need time to gel, if we lose, nothing I post on here is going to make a bit of difference to the players, management or board, same for when we win but well done to the players and management for getting 3 points yesterday against a team who are seasoned top sixers.

  8. I always wonder why so much of this goes in Premier League and Football League football where there are cameras at every game.

Your friends and family can see you've faked it, in a few years your kids and grandchildren may see it, how embarrassing would that be.

Anyone over 20 should not be faking it like a child, if you are in a battle you need leaders and strong characters, those with a faking it mindset are the ones who you can't rely on when under pressure and will end up costing their team points.

If he had got sent of for faking it we could have lost, drawn or still won but face the next game without him.

  9. I have doubts about some of the recruits but I think it's better to wait until we are 10 league games in to pass judgement, everyone needs time to settle in to a new club at this level.

The time it takes them to settle in could be the difference between an automatic promotion place and a play off place but on paper I don't think we have a squad which you can look at and say we are guaranteed automatic promotion candidates, you need to spend a lot of money for that, so for me, finishing in the play off's at the end of the season will be a good achievement.
