He's ours - just said on radio derby - 3 year deal - close to a £1 m - he was interviewed and said he felt more wanted by Derby - full interview tonight on radio derby after 6pm.

The Rams beat arch rivals Nottingham Forest to the 26-year-old’s signature and he will go straight into the Derby squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Chesterfield.

The Telegraph understands the Rams have paid in the region of £900,000 for Barker, who has been manager Nigel Clough’s top target this summer.

Barker has signed a three-year contract with the Rams.

“Nigel Clough was a massive factor in my decision to come here,†said Barker, who can play at centre-back or right-back.

“I was born in Nottingham and supported Forest as a youngster. But once you become a professional footballer you stop being a fan and concentrate on doing your best for your club.

"Forest may have shown an interest in me but I am 110 per cent committed to Derby and very impressed by Nigel’s plans for the club. He had clearly done his homework on me and as soon as I spoke to him it was clear to me that Derby was where I wanted to be.

"I can’t wait for the season to start.â€

Barker was with Blackpool in Devon as part of the Seasiders’ pre-season tournament yesterday when he was told that the Rams’ bid for him had been accepted.

He then flew up to Blackpool to collect his belongings before travelling to Derby to complete the signing this morning.

“I have been aware of Derby’s interest for a while,†Barker added. “I had three great seasons at Blackpool and the only two other clubs I would consider in the Championship would have been Derby or Forest.

Wahooooooooo!

Top bombing Nigel, much needed signing.

Apparently we (Needed) him more than Forest mwhahahahah, have they looked at their defence yet?, can't accept that Derby is a more attractive club to join with Cloughie at the helm than that shower with Billy the **** in charge.

Vital Forest: Derby County have today announced the signing of Blackpool defender Shaun Barker.

Barker has been a long term target of NFFC and make no mistake, his signing for the Mutton Molestors hurts. It would be nice to say that we weren't really interested in the 26 year old centre half, but who would we be kidding? He was a target and he would have gone along way to making what was the worst defence in the Championship last year, look a little more solid.

The one thing that really sticks in the throat, is Barker's reason for signing for the Sheep. He told the BBC. "I took a bit of time and to be honest I thought Derby wanted me more." That quote asks a few questions, like what the hell were we playing at? Maybe the club has a "blow yer socks off signing" lined up, but don't hold your breath on that one. At this moment in time, we've definitely been kicked and we need a lift.

So we move onto the next one (hopefully two CH's) and the next one is Matthew Mills at Doncaster. We face some stiff competition for his services from Middlesbrough and the Reds' can't aford to miss out on this one. They have to get the deal done.

This isn't going to make Billy Davies a happy wee man either. He was apoplectic at the sight of Robbie Savage running round the City Ground pitch last season, waving a Sheep scarf. God only knows what this will do to him. One things for sure, he'll be making a hasty retreat from Albufeira, where the team are on a training trip. Keep you eyes on the skies this afternoon, because that plane heading at breakneck speed for East Midlands Airport has Billy Davies on it and he 'aint a happy chappy.

LMAO I remember when we first played Blackpool. On the DET someone started a thread asking who the good Blackpool defender was. People with sour grapes were posting about him being rubbish and dirty.

Guess who he turned out to be?

Here it is.
