Andy Thorn don't beat around the bush does he? Not the usual "He's a good player, it's just not working out for him with this formation/system" etc etc

Think he played a bigger role last season.

I was desperate for us to sign him at one point. As were a lot of people.

PLYMOUTH Argyle have failed in an ambitious bid to bring Coventry City's international striker Freddy Eastwood to Home Park.

The Pilgrims, who came out of administration on Monday, are desperate to strengthen their depleted and inexperienced squad with loan signings.

Player-manager Carl Fletcher, who is a former Wales team-mate of 28-year-old Eastwood, is anxious to bring in recruits in time for Saturday's home League Two encounter with high-flying Morecambe.

Jointly topping the Pilgrims' wish list of players is a proven goal-scorer and an experienced central defender.

Chairman of football operations, Peter Ridsdale admitted the 'question had been asked' of Eastwood about a loan move to Plymouth, in order to kick-start his stalled Sky Blues' career and help the Pilgrims' battle against relegation.

However, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southend United hitman, despite being frozen out by Championship side Coventry's manager Andy Thorn, rejected Argyle's offer.

But, it is believed the long commute to the South West from his Midlands' home, rather than dropping down two divisions to bottom-placed Plymouth, that put off Eastwood.

The 28-year-old Eastwood is a father of two young children and in the final 12 months of his four-year deal with Coventry.

But Ridsdale said that he is hopeful of bringing in at least 'one, if not two, new faces' for the Morecambe match.

He said: "We must have made about a dozen calls already this week to try and help strengthen our squad with loan players.

"And he (Freddy Eastwood) was just one of the players that we sounded out.

"So, yes, the question was asked (about a loan move), but for whatever reason, maybe the distance was a factor, he (Eastwood) did not want to come down.

"It's no secret that Plymouth needs someone to put the ball into the back of the net and an experienced player at the other end to help us stop conceding goals.

"But we've got feelers out to a number of football clubs and I'm reasonably optimistic that we will have one, if not two, new faces in time for Saturday."

Ridsdale had been acting chairman until the Pilgrims' takeover by new owner James Brent's Akkeron Group was confirmed on October 31.

The 59-year-old former Leeds and Cardiff chairman is now Argyle's operations chief, with midfielder Fletcher confirmed as manager and long-serving goalkeeper Romain Larrieu confirmed as player-coach.

Both Fletcher and Larrieu had been acting in caretaker roles since Peter Reid was sacked as Argyle manager in September.
