My fathers is 1HMC (his initials) and I rememeber as a child the customs officials stopping us and ripping the interior out of his Lotus as we were waiting to board the ferry at Calais.

The reason being the Queens plate is HMC1 (Her Majestys Customs) and the officials at customs thought it suspicious.

We had to foot the bill as customs are entitled to do as they please.

Hopton Mining Company offered him a huge amount for the plate but he refused to sell.

I remember when 'X1' was for sale, and was £250,000 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

That would be alright for a forest fan 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

This would do me fine, but a small dot at the bottom of the 'B' to make it look like an 'R', shame about the £10,000 price tag 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Similar story with Max Bygraves, had the number plate 'MB 1' and Mercedes Benz offered him £250,000 for it, and he turned it down!
