First Team Players contracted beyond the summer

The following players are all under contract until the summer of 2024:

Goalkeeper: Joe Wildsmith.

Defenders: Eiran Cashin, Jake Rooney, Kwaku Oduroh.

Midfield: Max Bird, Conor Hourihane, Jason Knight*, Korey Smith, Louie Sibley, Liam Thompson, Krystian Bielik.

Wingers: Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Tom Barkhuizen.

Strikers: James Collins.

* = Derby to exercise one year extension option.

So a squad of 14 players (effectively 12 if you discount Oduroh and Bielik).

The only problem I can see with Knight is the wage he's probably on.  He won't be getting less as an option. Any player worth money will be asked to extend by a further year this summer.  If they're not up for that, I expect they will be sold for reasonable offers.  Painful in the short term, more movement in the long term under FFP as we can't spend it, but the days of free transfers are gone at Derby I would imagine.  A lot depends on the division.

I suppose it’s better than we were last summer. But you would thing quite a few of the younger guys layers might want to leave this summer if we are still in League one.
