PearTree Ram
That'd be why they bombed derby in WW2. Too Right ! We were very lucky compared to Coventry and Filton (Near Bristol) It seems that during World War II 74 people were killed by German bombing in Derby and over 300 were injured. Rolls-Royce was their prime objective in Derby because, if they had crippled that factory, the Battle of Britain would have been lost.
PearTree Ram
There's one in the Silk Mill Museum PTR if you want a picture. I've seen it. I would have added that picture but thought it would be better to add ones i had taken myself. And no, i did not take the pictures of the Spitfire, Hurricane and Mustang. Had no choice but to add them from ones i found on the net, hope nobody will mind.

PearTree Ram
Merlin's on the Lancaster bomber as well I think? Yep, can't forget the Lancaster's. Avro Lancaster, de Havilland Mosquito, Supermarine Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, Handley Page Halifax and no doubt many more. I went to a RR Open Day a few weeks ago. They have many of the engines at the Wilmore and Osmaston Road sites.
Boycie
Do they have open days every year? I used to go to the Loco works open days when I was a kid. Wouldn't mind a walk around RR next year.

uttoxram75
I remember the open days at the Loco works - and the massive christmas parties for the workers' kids. My Dad worked there for over 30 years.

lyndsey
RR was better, after you saw santa and got your massive bag of choccies you could go to the loo wash the stamp off your hand (you got that once you when to see santa) then go back in again and get another bag of choccies and we had sanrnies and crisps
Boycie
Well, the loco santa gave you a crisp £10.00 note if you sat on his knee and helped him with his sack after the party. So there!
