Carlisle United have handed a trial to former Ilkeston Town striker Amari Morgan-Smith.

Morgan-Smith, 21, is now a free agent after his club were wound-up in the High Court over an unpaid tax bill.

The former Crewe and Stockport forward scored 21 times last season and spent two weeks on trial at Derby County this summer.

Championship side Nottingham Forest are also reported to be showing an interest in Morgan-Smith who will play for Carlisle's reserves today.

Ilkeston manager Kevin Wilson recently described Morgan-Smith as "the hottest property in non-league."

Carlisle United's reserves are in action at Stockport County this afternoon where Morgan-Smith is expected to start.

Was at Luton tonight. He is quick, got a nice touch and runs at defenders. took his goal well, side foot from the keepers punch - looks composed when finishing.

However Luton have signed him on a two year contract, so let him do his development there and keep an eye on him.
