sage
I loved Wright and Kirsten who were our best batsmen when I first started watching Derbyshire but it could and maybe should have been very different. In the late 70s, Eddie Barlow had John Wright on trial in our second team, along with 3 players he brought over from Western Province. Peter Kirsten Garth le Roux Alan Lamb Barlow had to pick 3 overseas players from the 3 South Africans and Wright. Whilst Kirsten and Wright were successful, picking a fast bowler (who could bat a bit) and 1 batsman made sense. Alan Lamb developed into a great player and eventually qualified as English. So maybe, my 2 favourite players of my early days weren't the right choice for Derbyshire. jimbo jones
Van der MoodHoover
It was Allan with 2 "L" s. Gave England great service through the mid-late 80s. Always remember him and beefy taking the aussies apart in the 1991 world cup semi final only for the team to balls up the final to Pakistan. LeRoux spent several years with Sussex didn't he? With imran Khan I think. That sudden influx of Saffers really spiced up 80s cricket.
