vicky-27
KEY defender Shaun Barker will not figure in the first three friendlies of pre-season as Derby County continue to ease him back following surgery on his knee. Barker will sit out tomorrow's match against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium and also the two games on the five-day tour to the south east next week. Derby say Barker's absence is merely precautionary and not a concern. He is training but not with the rest of the squad. "Shaun will probably join in with the squad next week when we are down south," said manager Nigel Clough We're just being careful with him after the knee operation he had in May. "We don't want him doing too much pounding on the hard ground at the moment. Even now, he is working as hard as the other lads, just not pounding on his knee because the last thing we want is for it to flare up again. "Fortunately, Shaun is one of those players who can keep ticking over in training and yet still play at a high level. "He showed us that at times last season. Towards the end of the season, we were managing his knee. He was training maybe once a week but still playing games." Me thinks the injury thread is going to be busy again this season  why oh why did they not sort it sooner if he was already struggling last season and only training once a week ? Day
Because they wanted him to play on so we could secure our Championship status? He's not picked up a new injury, he had knee surgery a couple of months ago, leaving him out is "merely precautionary". Nothing to worry about here, you will set the wrist slashers off again. CumbrianRam
This is a safety first plan IMO, I'd rather he miss 3 friendlies than 2 months of league games.

Perky1106
Tbh I'd rather he not be playing these friendlies than risk his knee three times before the actual season starts.
