Marlon King jailed for sex assault

Footballer Marlon King has been jailed for 18 months for sexually assaulting a woman - and has been sacked by Premier League club Wigan Athletic as a result.

The striker was repeatedly "cold-shouldered" by the 20-year-old student in a bar in central London last December, Southwark Crown Court heard.

He groped her and then punched her, leaving her with a broken nose.

The father-of-three, from Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, had insisted it was a case of mistaken identity.

The jury returned a unanimous verdict, however, and King was convicted of sexually assaulting the woman and causing actual bodily harm.

The assault happened at the Soho Revue Bar at a time when he was on loan with Hull City.

King was celebrating two occasions - his wife's latest pregnancy and the scoring of a winning goal - with a night out in the West End.

He was repeatedly "cold-shouldered" by women in the bar, the court heard.

'Gratuitous violence'

Prosecution lawyer Roger Daniells-Smith said King had struck up a conversation with his victim by saying: "Don't you know who I am? I'm a millionaire."

The court heard she replied: "I don't care who you are; take your millionaire self away from our table."

He groped the woman and she told him: "Don't do that, it's not nice. Don't touch me."

King was warned off her again but he continued to stroke the woman's hair and then told her she was not in his league, the court heard.

After she pushed him in the chest, King lost his temper and a moment of "completely gratuitous violence" led to him "smashing" the victim to the floor, jurors were told.

Two other people standing beside him were also knocked away as a result of the force of the blow he inflicted.

Several witnesses testified that King was responsible, despite his denial.

They included a football coach who insisted the 29-year-old Jamaican international was the assailant.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan said King "was finished with football" at the club.

"We have to follow the rules and regulations, which means we will have to give him 40 days' notice that his contract will be cancelled," he told Sky Sports News.

"He is absolutely sacked. We will not tolerate football players who get sent to jail for 18 months."

Not a clue to be honest but it makes you wonder how Gerrard got off for beating that guy up in a club a few months back.

Stolen from Wiki:

His career was nearly derailed in 2002 when he was given an eighteen month prison sentence for handling a stolen car. After an appeal, the sentence was reduced to five months and King returned to Gillingham's team within two days of his release.

King's time at Hull City was beset with controversy. On 12 November 2008, he was involved in a fracas with teammate Dean Windass in a casino in Scarborough. King was alleged to have headbutted Windass following an argument. Hull City stated that the matter had been dealt with internally, and both players remained with the club. Windass later described the incident as a "storm in a teacup".

On 5 December 2008, King was banned from driving for 56 days after being caught speeding at 106 miles per hour on a stretch of road with a speed limit of 60mph.

Five days on from his driving ban, he was arrested on suspicion of punching a 20 year-old woman in the face in a Soho bar, causing a broken nose and split lip for which she was treated in hospital. He was later charged with sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. After several preliminary hearings he pleaded not guilty to the charges at his trial at Southwark Crown Court on 26 October 2009. On 29 October 2009 he was found guilty by a jury of sexual assault and sentenced to 18 months in prison.

This guy pure scum

Kin ell didn't know all of that, his CV doesn't look to good now. No club will touch him with a bargepole after all that, saying that I wouldn't be surprised if a League 2 / Conference club take a punt on him when he's released. Don't forget his missus, wonder if she'l be waiting for him in a year an half.

If I was his missus and I knew he groped other birds in bars then I don't think I'd wait 18 months.

She's a WAG so I reckon she's a looker and can do better than a scumbag crim like him.

LEE HUGHES MATE -

During the 2003–04 season, Hughes was involved in a car crash in which his Mercedes CL500 collided with a Renault Scenic near the Warwickshire village of Meriden. A passenger in the Renault, Douglas Graham, was killed in the incident and the driver Albert Frisby was severely injured. Hughes and his passenger left the scene, prior to turning themselves in to the police the following day. Hughes was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and released on police bail, allowing him to complete Albion's First Division campaign and gain promotion to the Premier League with Hughes being the club's leading league goalscorer on 13 goals.

On 9 August 2004, Hughes was found guilty of causing the death by dangerous driving of Douglas Graham, and of leaving the scene of an accident. Although defended by Nick Freeman, the judge nevertheless criticised Hughes for having a "callous disregard" for the four occupants of the Renault and sentenced him to six years imprisonment. Hughes was also banned from driving for ten years. His contract with West Bromwich Albion was terminated. In January 2005, his appeal for the sentence to be reduced was refused. He was held at Ashwell Prison in Rutland and Featherstone Prison in Staffordshire. While in prison he converted to Islam. He played in the Staffordshire County Senior League for Featherstone F.C., the prison football team.

Upon his release Hughes made a public apology and confirmed that during his time in prison he met the daughter of Douglas Graham. Hughes stated, "In going some way to facing my responsibilities, I have met with a relative of the man who died, and what was said will always remain a private and personal matter. For different reasons I think we were both glad that the meeting occurred. I made dreadful mistakes and decisions that will live with me for the rest of my life. It also greatly affected my immediate family, including my wife and children, and I will never forgive myself for this."

Hughes also insisted he was determined to carry out community work to help others avoid the mistakes he made saying "Whilst it is not part of my contract it has always been my intention to do some community work centred on the mistakes I have made, in the hope that it can go some way to preventing another tragedy occurring.
