Animal is a Ram
We can't afford to play like we did vs. Norwich, against Middlesbrough. We need to be in their faces from the first minute to the last. No time on the ball, no relaxation. Which is exactly what we did against Birmingham, only to switch off after 80 minutes. We need a 90 (plus whatever the ref decides) minute performance tonight. Something I don't think we've seen since we beat Bolton 4-1.
VulcanRam
I'm interested to know why you think there are 'several reasons' why we cannot play champagne football?
G STAR RAM
1. We don't have the personnel at our disposal to do it - without Martin and Thorne we aren't good enough to link the play in either the defensive third or attacking third. And without Eustace the midfield seem reluctant to fire forward as much.2. The manager seems to want us to kick it high to Russell's head, so players are playing to that instruction and the play breaks down too easily. We become predictable.3. We lack confidence to do it. At the moment players look nervous and so make safe choices rather than bold ones. Lots of touches. Slow build up. Slow to drive into the space into the attacking third and get behind the opposition defence, allowing them to get back and cover. Some of this has to do with Ince playing on the right and having no right foot at all, so after a bright start has become easy to mark. Ditto Ward on the left, though he does mix it up a bit more.4. Teams know how we set up and know that we won't change that, so we are easier to play against. That said, please bear in mind I said 'at the moment'. it could all change before the end of the season.
