Not much to do in San Simeon but here things to do from what I can remember

Elephant seal rookery 4 miles of Hearst Castle

Ragged Point (This is beginning of Elevated part of the big sur drive Ragged Point is a commercial property, but the views from the back of the property are stunning)

McWay Falls @ Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park (Famous ribbon waterfall that drops on to an inaccessible beach. The contrast between the water in the cove by the falls and the open sea is breathtaking)

Nepenthe/Phoenix shop(Lunch with nice view there and big sur souvenir shopping)

Bixby Bridge ( Iconic arch bridge used in many of our TV and prints ads)

Point Lobos State Reserve (Stunning scenery along several easy walking paths)

San Diego is decent

Palm Spring good choice

No comment on Carmel + Newport beach

:)

Balboa Island, San Clemente for a surf, thousand step beach at Laguna beach.

Go to 7 flags magic mountain.

Check out Irvine spectrum. Catch a couple of local bands in Laguna Nigel. Drive around Palm Springs in a pick up with oversized wheels.

**** I wish I lived there.

Cambria south of San Simeon is a really cool place for lunch and a potter round. Bit of an artist community.

Hearst Castle is well worth a look.

A little further south San Luis Obispo has some good pubs and restaurants and a drive in cinema. Try to make it a Thursday night there, big open air farmers market, massive BBQs live music in the street and in pubs.

San Diego is nice. Loads of obvious stuff like Sea World and the zoo, but travel out to La Jolla and Coronado Island. Top places.

Top tip is to do Alcatraz trip at teatime. Travel out on the boat and look round in daylight, see sunset from the island and get the boat back with all the city lit up.

P.s.Fisherman's Wharf is sh1te
