If Buxtons injury is long term, who do we bring in?

First 1/4 of last season OB was absolutely fantastic? So he clearly can

I think Curtains sensibly has a concern about us bringing OB into playing 90 minute games, rather than slowly introducing him after his lengthy injury. There is no doubt that he is good enough, but let's look after him!!

It's not a case of ability, as you pointed out NSR, but he's being eased back in gently and I think 90mins is too much at the moment.

This currently leaves us with Barks and Bucko out, Roberts too (but not for the same amount of time)

so fully fit:

Brayford, Freeman, Keogh, O'C, Hoganson

and O'B is working his way to full fitness.

Clough could pick Hoganson at LB, who I don't think is ready, but looked handy preseason and would benefit hugely from some 1st team game time if he is to replace Roberts.

Or could play 3-5-2, but then again hell could freeze over.

Unless there is someone in the academy that could step up, I think another CB is necessary just in case O'C picks something up.

http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/buxton-set-for-eight-weeks-out-541174.aspx

Defender's knee injury confirmed.

Derby County defender Jake Buxton has been ruled out of action for around eight weeks with a knee injury.

The central defender underwent a series of scans earlier in the week and after seeing a specialist in London it has been confirmed that Buxton has suffered medial ligament damage in his right knee.

He sustained the injury in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Leeds United at Pride Park Stadium; a game in which he scored his fourth goal of the campaign.

As a result, Buxton is not expected to be back in first-team contention until some stage in February – meaning he will miss the entire Christmas period and the early games of Derby’s season in 2013.

Manager Nigel Clough said: “Jake is likely to be out for about eight weeks, which is two months of course, so it is a big blow to lose him.

“He’s been one of our most consistent players this season so to lose him is desperately disappointing for the team, and of course Jake himself on a personal note – but the good thing is when he does return he’ll

have plenty of games to get his teeth in to in the last few months of the season.

“With Shaun Barker out injured all season he’s really stepped up to the plate and he’ll be missed that is for sure, but it gives someone else an opportunity now and it’s down to them to take it.”

Since joining Derby in the summer of 2009 from Burton Albion, the 27-year-old has made 65 appearances for the Rams, and endured a difficult spell on the sidelines between March 2010 and November 2011 with a succession of back and groin problems.

It's probably worth bringing another centre back in.

I think O'Connor has proved he is capable in the position so too O'Brien and they will deputise for Buxton without fuss but all it takes is two or three more injuries or suspensions for the situation to look far less secure.

I'm not sure we'd be able to rely on the depth of the squad to cover the absence of Brayford or Keogh for example.

I would think they loan someone if OB and/or OC became injured or suspended.

Or maybe if we have an Earth Quake at Pride park and O'Brien falls into the hole and is lost to the oblivion then Jame's O'Connor could take over until a plane going to East Midlands drops a Crate on him then we will have to bring Gjokaj back all the way from Carlisle then there might be a severve snow storm and he can't drive or fly anywhere we might have to field Rammie..... Ok first game with OB in the team, playing injuried I might add and apart from a slip in the first half. I thought he was as good as anyone. I thought he was physical and worked hard. Good heading some good IMPORTANT challenges.

The defence looked more solid on Saturday from what I could see around the massive red pillar that blocked my view.

Also a clean sheet away from home confidence will be rising after that one.
