ladyram
Right what do you all sit down to? Looking for a few ideas to venture away from the traditional this year, sick of turkey tried a couple of diffent meats last year ,not to good. Get your menus in. Can't disagree with Anag Ram Neo, get a rib roast if you can. Rub some extra virgin olive oil on, then give it a generous coat of salt and pepper. Treat it nice and you've got a majestic centrepiece. Have been a bit busy lately but I'll get round to posting some more ideas in the recipe thread later. My wife has never been a veggie (she loves my meat) her dad (hippie) wouldnt even let her eat meat in the house say like a battered sausage from chippy in the house. I once made the biggest mistake of saying I had seen how tofu was made and thought that the bean went through a much worse procedure than what a cow does, it was a joke but jesus they took it the wrong way, tried showing me video's the lot!!! Anywho last time we had Christmas dinner round there we had turkey??!!?? (FAKE)

trekkie_ram
For the past two Christmas dinners, I've had T-Bone steak with all the trimmings, whilst the wife and in-laws have turkey. I even get to have a bit of turkey myself. The trimmings must include home-made Yorkshire puds, pigs-in-blankets, roast potatoes & mash potatoes. I'm fairly easy going on the veg, but usually it's carrots, peas & broccoli on our roasts, with sprouts no doubt making another appearance at Christmas. The more important question is 'what to drink?'. I had Poacher's Choice last year, a bottled beer from Badger. It has a unique taste, and was perfect for the occasion. It might make a reappearance this year.

I'm off to the foreign food store just now actually. Can't buy Yorkshire puds or brussels here but should manage to find the other things.
BorneoRam
Make your own yorkies, surely you can buy the ingredients and they are dead simple. I will be cooking a turkey and a ham with all the normal stuff, bit of a mission here to get it but always do, we get parsnips, brussels and swede in the market but only for the 2 weeks before xmas

mcsilks
I'm going to set up a worldwide chain of food outlets and call them "Proper Normal Food" I don't think a Brit would fare too well with that idea as the British tend too cook less and less preferring packaged rubbish compared to a hearty prepared fresh meal. My Japanese students could not believe some of the things we eat and the sheer amount of ready meals we consume on their visit to England. You see so many different restaurants all over the world but outside of the UK and these tacky plastic European tourist resorts, I don't think I've ever seen a restaurant that sells only British cuisine. Hi Neo, If you can manage to ignore the subtitles, check out these vids from Nigella ( I always follow her recipes when I can) and I've managed to track these down on Youtube. Scroll across the Christmas episodes which run across the bottom of the screen and you'll find the one with the beef with port and Stilton gravy, and everything is easy with minimal faffing about. Hope these come in useful, enjoy 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I have the cook book for this series so if anyone wants the full recipes, give me a shout.
