  1. Just don't see Sibley as a permanent defender. Don't fancy him on 1 v 1, not particularly good at eating either. Much prefer to see him further up the field, where he still has a lot to prove.
  2. Think you’ve had a drop too much. Don’t think he is anywhere near strong enough defensively, particularly away from home against some of the stronger sides. Can see bookings and sendings off.
  3. Called the IPRO stadium in the article so could be very old
  4. I think we all agree that he is not as quick/mobile as we would like. Although he cannot compare to the great Dave MacKay, there are similarities - using his experience, calm head and chipping in with a few goals. Got us promoted and then eventually replaced by the more mobile, speedy Colin Todd.
  5. Entitled to your opinion but I think you are totally wrong, being an ex-goalkeeper. Goal 1 - agree he may have been slightly slow to get down but I think he had the ball covered and would have got something on the ball but for the deflection. Goal 2 - did everything right. Come out too quickly and too far and the player will chip it over you. If you look at the goal from the camera in the South Stand, he actually gives the attacker more space on his left had side (not the right as you say) , anticipating the attacker will place the ball that side, hence why he went to the left with his feet. Hugill was actually brilliant and placed it to the goalkeepers right. No blame attached at all to the goalkeeper. I am not sure Derby have a player who could have scored more clinically than Hugill. We do not score very easily from that type of chance. NML chance against Fleetwood was much easier.
  6. Obviously a heartfelt post, but I prefer to see what's happening with my own eyes and then make my own mind up what I think about the team/club. I've listened to radio commentaries on Radio Derby when we have played away (i don't go to away games) but then watched the game on Ramstv the following day and it has been hugely different. If you read the posts on here during a game when something has gone wrong, or a player makes a mistake, you could be forgiven for being mislead. Radio Derby is pretty good but certain presenters/commentators have their own agenda too (believe Dom is far more balanced than Ed Dawes used to be). People are so passionate for Derby to do well, I think it affects their balance and sense sometimes, when things do not go to plan. The female referee got a real pasting the last time she came to Pride Park, but watching the game back, she got virtually every decision right. Elder got slated on Monday night, but watching the game back, generally he did ok, apart from their second goal. So my advice to everyone is don't be influenced by other opinions, make your own mind up based on what you see and the facts which are evident. I can be persuaded by a good argument with facts given to back up that argument, but not by people speculating based on their own bias, opinion and dislike of people.
  7. Absolutely not. Scored a worldy but so did Shane Nicholson once! More to the point he has already had 2 red cards this season and some would argue he should have had a 3rd!
  8. If anyone bothers to watch the game back on Ramstv, it is absolute nonsense to say they pinned us in our half for long periods. Possibly 5 minutes after they equalised. We probably lost a little confidence after they equalised and our passing went awry. Aperture from the 2 gifts we gave them, they never looked like scoring.
  9. The team got Wildsmith out of jail at Oxford. His decision for the penalty was criminal and don’t think he covered himself in glory with the second. Had we not made that dramatic comeback I think Wildsmith would have copped a load of flak. Thought initially did well against Peterborough and was dominant in the air collecting crosses. Thought with the rest of the defence he switched off for their equaliser and might have done better. Thought he could have done more with their winner too. He also wasted time and was warned by the referee (not unusual for him) and may have caused additional added time. They scored in the last minute. Needs to be cleverer. happy for Vickers to have a chance but initial thought s are Wildsmith is the better if he just concentrates on his goalkeeping.
  10. Thought you meant the “Green Un” for a minute
  11. Possibly unlike anyone else, I have watched the whole match again today, with all the negative comments made last night ringing in my ears. What a load of tosh some people talk. For 53 minutes Burton hardly had a kick in our box, we were so dominant. Scored one very good goal from a good move down the wing (a Warne special). Probably should have scored again when Mendis-Lang got through. Scored a second very good goal, good cross from Elder, and then 2 good headers from Barks & Collins. Cue 53mins, casual NML, whether foul or not, possibly didn’t engage the runner quickly enough, but what a strike for their 1st goal. Not the first time this season NML has lost the ball and given the opposition opportunities to attack, but on this occasion we paid the price. We continue to attack and look ok but then disaster with a simple counterattack, where Elder was left wanting (either through lack of concentration, a stumble or whatever). Despite what some people said on the Forum last night, he has had a pretty good game up until that moment - yes there was a misplaced pass in the 1st half (slightly also Hourahane’s fault), a sliced clearance straight up in the air - but apart from that good. (Wilson also sliced a clearance straight up in the air in the very last minute - no groans or comment). Despite what some say Sibley was not an improvement, apart from the main error. Understanably, we lost a bit of confidence having thrown away 2 goals and they had a spell of possession for a while, but often because of our misplaced passes. To be honest they never looked like scoring again. Despite what every says about brave little Burton, ( and they did put in a mighty shift for their new manager), we definitely deserved to win the game more comfortably than we did. Thank goodness the players stayed composed till the end and didn’t try to force things, as we have done recently. We could easily have won the game 5/6-2. I wish some of the posters on here had stayed as composed because reading some of the posts on here is embarrassing. if you disagree with me, I suggest you re- watch the match again - it wasn’t a bad viewing.
  12. I agree with most of what you say. I would say though that we need to be able to pass the ball better than we do at the moment and that is the main reason our attacks break down, together with our lack of movement on the ball. we do get overrun in midfield quite a bit, but again I would agree that he doesn’t have the right personnel in the squad to make the right adjustments. We need a Thorn/Eustace type player, which we haven’t got. Forman is the nearest to it but he appears to lack a bit of confidence presently and needs to think and move the ball a bit quicker than he currently does. Smith is the next best but has his many critics. I like Thompson’s work ethics but don’t think he is strong or quick enough to do the job either. Ideally we need to find a “Duncan Edwards” - a quicker, more aggressive, taller version of Hourihane to sit in front of the back 4.
  13. Thanks for that, that’s a good summary. in terms of his game management, I would argue that this has improved this season. I think it is a tricky area to judge, as those who criticise usually have the great benefit of hindsight. One the one hand, if we are playing reasonably well, you don’t want to change the momentum of the game by introducing substitutes, so timing I think is not always easy to judge. If the opposition are making tactical substitutions, which immediately affect the game, then I do agree you need to be more proactive to counter these. That is providing you have the personnel on the bench to produce the necessary effect. I would argue that currently he does not have all the bullets he needs to cover every situation. For example, regardless of who he bought on against Peterborough, they were always quicker and passed the ball better than us. Last night Burton were not better or the equal of us. They scored 2 goals from our mistakes, but never looked like scoring apart from that. We could quite easily have won 5-2, with the players we had on the pitch. The Control aspect is similar in a way. We need to pass the ball better and possibly be a bit more boring and safer. That however bought huge criticisms earlier in the season. I would again argue that until we find a Thorne/Eustace midfielder who can be strong, tackle and break up attacks, we will always struggle to control games as much as we would like. Agree with your strengths.
  14. Just watched the game back, they just made 2 like for like substitutions, there was no change of shape. We just made 2 clangers from which they scored.
  15. Very broadbrush, please explain first sentence and what he gets away with.
  16. What do you think are Warne’s limitations and strengths then?
  17. I wasn’t surprised that Wildsmith was left out after a few mistakes recently. I agree that Vickers doesn’t look particularly commanding of his box. I would now reinstate Wildsmith, hoping that he has learnt he needs to keep on his toes and perform ( including not making ridiculous decision like the penalty at Oxford)
  18. He was out of the team earlier in the season through injury and the because Forsyth had played so well. He is playing because Forsyth is injured. There is a player in there according to the Hull fans who were sad when he left.
  19. Their first goal came down the left wing. The second was arguably just a mistake from Elder. Until they scored they hardly had a touch in our box. Our defenders were the problem tonight.
  20. Possibly the most sensible post of the night- some posters on here are as poor as our defending was a couple of times tonight.
  21. Possibly daft, daft penalty given away at Oxford and maybe could have done better with Peterborough goals 2 & 3
