Red Elvis
Rams fan reveals Clough statue plan Derby County legends Brian Clough and Peter Taylor may one day stand outside the Rams' home once again after plans were announced appealing for a statue of the pair to be erected outside Pride Park. Kalwinder Singh Dhindsa believes the duo's achievements at the club should be suitably recognised, and plans to meet representatives of the club to discuss forming a committee to raise money for the memorial. Clough and Taylor famously led the Rams from the old Second Division to the summit of the First in 1972. There is already a statue of the former in nearby Nottingham, where he also guided Forest to the First Division championship in 1978 as well as two European Cup, one Super Cup and four League Cup triumphs. Kalwinder Singh Dhindsa hopes that the monument will be outside Pride Park within the next two years, and insists his motivation is not inspired by the fact that the Rams' arch-rivals already have a statue of their idol. "It's not just a case that Nottingham's got one and Derby needs one too or claiming Brian Clough and Peter Taylor for Derby," he said. "It's about recognising the great achievement in a magical six-year spell at Derby." Clough passed away in September 2004 aged 69 having suffered from stomach cancer, while Taylor died suddenly on holiday in 1990 at the age of 62.
