Day
If it's the official Sony PS3 headset you can download the instruction manuals here http://us.playstation.com/support/manuals/ps3/index.htm

Alex W
Not sure if it works with PS3s, but on the Xbox you have to change your settings to be able to talk to others on certain consoles. Check his settings to see if there's anything like 'Talk online' turned off etc.

Boycie
I'm getting pressure from my 10yr old to get onto xbox live, but I'm not too happy about it. I trust there's filters for age appropriate stuff?

I'm not sure of the ps3 setting mate, but there must be an option to only talk to friends etc. Bad language is all over online gaming, you can't stop it really. 8 year old kids effing and blinding like there's a prize going. Ridiculous really.

Alex W
Yes, I bet the really young one's are the worse. Showing off like. Definately. The rest swear like they would normally with friends, which is a fair bit, but the family settings should fix that on the 360.
Day
PS3 - Nothing you can do. Xbox 360 - You can set it so only people on your friends list can send you messages, you can also block all game chat except for people on your friends list. (done this myself)
lyndsey
Ry plays online on both but i prefer 360 as he only plays people pre approved by me or his dad, he only tends to go on ps3 when his uncle in kilt country is online. the language on there is awful but i know he hears just at bad at school and footy but at least he is old enough to know better than to repeat it
