derbydan
A Derby County XI will face Solihull Moors in a pre-season friendly match this evening. A mixture of professionals, youngsters and trialists will make up Derby's squad, with the first-team taking on Birmingham City at Pride Park tomorrow. Defender Jake Buxton will start tonight's game as he steps up his return from groin surgery last month while trialist Jordan Bowen will also start. Derby County line-up: Deeney, Mills, Garton, Buxton, Moxey, Abalimba, Hendrick, Bowen, Doyle, Martin, Varney. Subs Not Used: Mendy, Connolly, Atkins, Pringle, O'Brien. Solihull ply their trade in the Blue Square North, and finished last season in 17th place. Rams winger Greg Mills enjoyed a loan stint with Solihull last season, where he gained vital match experience. Tickets for tonight's game cost £6 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for juniors. Tonight's game kicks off at 7:45pm.

derbydan
another win varney & doyle on target again Goals either side of half-time gave a Derby County XI a 2-0 victory at Solihull Moors on Friday evening. Luke Varney and Conor Doyle were the men on target as Derby saw off the Blue Square North Side, with Jake Buxton completing an hour as he continues to return to full fitness after injury. At a rain-soaked Damson Park chances were limited in the first period, but it was Derby who enjoyed the better of the play. Dave Martin and Dean Moxey combined well on various occasions down the left, with Martin delivering a dangerous cross early on which was put wide by Varney. In the poor conditions it was always going to be a difficult evening for goalkeepers and Saul Deeney dealt with a couple of difficult crosses early on, showing intelligent goalkeeping to punch the ball away rather than try to catch in the soggy conditions. Chances were few and far between until the closing stages of the half when Abalimba let fly with a shot from the edge of the area which drifted just wide. In the final minute of the half Derby broke the deadlock with Moxey, who had been bursting forwards all evening from left-back, delivered a low cross into the 6-yard box which Varney converted from close range. Varney turned provider 5 minutes into the 2nd half, crossing for trialist Conoor Doyle to score from a few yards out to extend Derby's lead. Buxton, Moxey, Deeney and Varney all made way around the hour as the Rams introduced fresh legs, but it was one of those on the field from the start who kept Derby's lead intact when Solihull almost pulled a goal back. Beswick chipped the ball over Atkins but Garton was back on the line to hack the ball clear. The game petered out with Derby firmly in control, with Doyle close to adding a second to his tally late on but he lifted the ball over the crossbar. At the other end Atkins made a fine reflex save to turn a header from Dempter over the crossbar. Solihull Moors: Singh, Kite, Langdon, Clarke, Streete, Tiernan, Lea, Price, Cunnington, Atlons, Beswick Subs: Dempster, Overfield, Cob, Grandison, Rachael Derby County: Deeney (Atkins 60), Mills, Buxton (O'Brien 60), Garton, Moxey (Connolly 65), Abalimba, Hendrick, Bowen, Doyle, Martin, Varney (Pringle 65) Subs Not Used: Mendy
