THE stolen brass memorial of Cradley superstar footballer ‘The Destroying Angel’ Steve Bloomer must have a guardian angel because it has turned up in Oldbury.

The brass plaque went missing from Bridge Street last weekend causing outrage across Cradley and the footballing world.

However, the publicity concerning the theft lead to the brass plaque, which was unveiled ten years ago, being discovered.

A Sandwell Council employee had found the memorial amongst rubble in Oldbury and alerted the authorities.

Cradley and Foxcote Councillor Richard Body is delighted that the memorial was not being sold off for scrap never to be seen again.

He said: “This is very rare that something like this happens so it is wonderful news, we will get the plaque cleaned up and installed in its rightful place as soon as we can.â€Â

Steve Bloomer was England’s first superstar footballer breaking records for both Derby County and England and even having poems written about him by P.G Wodehouse.

The memorial, similar to one in the Lock-up yard in Derby City Centre was taken some time last week. The theft was met with an outcry from the people of Cradley and those connected with the Derby County legend.

feckin pikeys or chav's probably took it for the scrap value
