vicky-27
Derby County's mascot should be banned after jibes towards Reading FC's Howard By Jonny Fordham November 28, 2009 Ban the Ram! Whoever Derby County’s mascot is needs to have a long hard look at themselves after their actions on Saturday at Pride Park, talk about mutton dressed as ram! Rammie the Ram’s behaviour was disgraceful and sickening when Brian Howard was laying flat out on the ground after an accidental clash of heads in the first half. The sheepish idiot ran 20-yards to the scene of the incident, just on the edge of Reading’s 18-yard box and the touchline, laid on the floor and signalled to the Reading midfielder to get up and stop feigning an injury. At the same time the St John’s first-aiders were making their way onto the pitch, stretcher in hand. Luckily for Howard he managed to get to his feet after about four minutes or so, but by the look of it not knowing where he was or what his own name was. Howard, who was taken to hospital during the game, has a suspected broken jaw and may need an operation, which could see him sidelined for quite some time, and his absence will in truth upset the current balance of the side. I didn’t see it, and I’m not condoning it, but allegedly a Reading player rugby tackled Rammie from behind at half-time and it looks like we haven’t heard the end of ‘Ramgate’. Rammie did apologise at the end of the game when I spoke to him, but I’m afraid you can’t go around and behave like that in front of 30,000 people and expect to get away with it. Referee Andy Haines should have acted there and then by sending him off, but he appeared to do very little at all. Hopefully the FA and Derby County will be sharpening their shears as we speak and some sort of action will be taken. http://i47.tinypic.com/1jlyc2

vicky-27
it was all done for a laugh and in good humour and when Rammie realized how bad he was ijnured he apologised anyway - don't see a problem myself. Rammie is very funny and should not be banned.
David
Is my memory failing me or did mascots only used to appear before kick off, soon as the game kicked off the mascots would be down the tunnel out the way until half time? Don't see the point in the mascot running around the pitch during play, your there to watch the football not some guy dressed up prancing around the pitch all game. I heard the stadium announcer was also attempting to be a comedian by pronouncing all the Reading players names before kick off.
derbydan
i think its good having rammie around during the match to get the crowd going abit and he anounced both the teams names before the match and then again when they came out of the tunnel didn't he ? David
If you need a bloke in a stupid Americanised costume to get you going for a football match then maybe you shouldn't be going to watch football.
derbydan
oooh ark at her i was just saying its good to see a mascot more involved and interacting with the crowd trying to get more of the fans singing ect
David
I agree....before kick off and half time with the kids, whilst the adults are downing pints in the concourse. I think I stopped getting entertained by people in costumes when I was about 8 or 9, it's not the same when you start to realise Zippy and Bungle are not real people. vicky-27
Well how would you know anyway you don't go - ! Rammie gets the crowd going - and we sure need it at the moment, and they always read the teams out
David
It doesn't matter if I have never been to Pride Park in my entire life or went every ruddy game, the time I need geeing up ahead of a Derby game by a bloke in a costume is the day I quit being a Derby fan. When i had a season ticket I'm sure Rammie used to stay down the tunnel out the way till half time, maybe the Americans have told him to stay out in another cheesy gimmick to create a false atmosphere.
