Clough playing for Burton Reserves

NIGEL CLOUGH could make a sensational return to Burton . . . as a player!

The Derby boss, 42, left the Blue Square Premier leaders to take over at Pride Park in January.

He has been turning out for his old club’s reserves and played 90 minutes at Redditch on Monday.

That fuelled talk he may make a sub appearance for Burton’s first team if they earn early promotion to the Football League.

Burton are 19 points clear and a club insider said: “He played the whole game at right-back and did very well.

“There can’t be many clubs where the old manager comes back to play for the reserves. But he just slotted back in.

“There’s talk he may even have a run-out for the first team if we get promoted early and Derby don’t have a game.â€Â

An FA spokesman said: “There’s nothing to say a manager cannot play for a team in another league on a non-contract basis.â€Â
