Portsmouth players have not been paid wages this week

London - Portsmouth admitted on Thursday that players had been left unpaid this week, but insisted the debt would be made up by the weekend at the latest.

"Portsmouth FC can confirm that the first-team squad and executive board was not paid yesterday (Wednesday)," a club statement read.

"The club is currently being refinanced by the owner Sulaiman al Fahim following the recent completion of his takeover.

"There was a delay in the transfer of funds but the lawyers have received confirmation that this will happen today which will enable the players to be paid within the next 24 to 48 hours. The players have all been informed of the situation

The executive board will continue to help the new owner in his efforts to refinance which has come about as a direct consequence of the banks' requirements to retain all television receipts and profits generated during the transfer windows."

The news only added to the mood of gloom at Portsmouth, who have lost their first seven games of the season.

"All the money from all the player transfers and the Sky TV money, all of the £35-million from January, has gone straight to the Standard Bank," chief executive Peter Storrie told ESPN.

"There is no money left. Whatever we spend on a monthly basis comes channelled through from the new owner.

"He has promised to re-finance, and he has shown me all the documentation, but I have no idea about the conditions of the 50million pounds he says will be arriving in a few weeks.

"We need to re-finance, it is as simple as that.

"As for the players' wages for the last month I would imagine it's a blip and they will be paid, but I have spent the last nine to 10 months fighting fires on a daily basis, I'm not giving up." -

OOOooh i can feel our 'worst team in history' tag disappearing here

Read something yesterday, apparently its to do with paperwork with the new takeover which has delayed paying wages although they will be paid today. A 10 point reduction would of made me giggle like a girl but it'l never happen. The record is ours until Forest get promoted.

Of course it will, its a points deduction which means you have points taken away, at the end of the season if they are on less than 11 points they will officially be the worst Premiership club in history. You aint finding any loophole out of that you Florist WUM behave yer sen

Anyway its all irrelevant as I doubt they will have points deducted.

Forest get promoted this season and go up, next season we go up whilst Forest come down as the worst team in Premiership history and Billy Davies career is over so goes to work in a haggis factory in Jockland. After Forest's new manager Rolf Harris struggles to trim the wage bill and bring in players that want to play for the club Forest suffer a second relegation in as many seasons. The Forest fans cry, the Derby fans smile. Normal service has been resumed.
