Medi Abalimba has signed from Southend

Derby County today completed to signing of promising youngster Medi Abalimba from Southend United.

The 17-year-old Congolese midfielder has been training with the Rams in recent weeks and a fee has been agreed between by both clubs.

Abalimba - who was spotted playing Sunday League Football by the Shrimpers and offered a scholarship deal - also caught the eye of both Manchester United and Liverpool whilst on the books at Roots Hall.

Abalimba is expected to feature heavily in the Derby County Reserve Team this season.

Same reason some players end up at Hull City Reserves, not everyone can play for the top 4 m'lady and managers have been wrong judging players when they were young before.

Be interesting to see if he will make it, not every player in the development team will be good enough to go on and play for the first team.
