Teenager who trains with OzBox wins boxing championshipsA teenager who trains with Derbyshire Constabulary’s OzBox team has won a gold medal in the European Union Amateur Boxing Championships. Chantelle Reid (15), from Derby, won the Junior 70kg class at the championships held in Keszthely, Hungary in July. She beat her Turkish opponent in the final 2-1 after a hard fought bout. Chantelle has registered to train from the newly opened Allenton Boxing Academy where free OzBox sessions are run for local young people and her grandfather is a coach. The gym was opened earlier this year with funding from the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund to run sessions of OzBox, which is a non-contact, boxing-based fitness scheme. Chantelle’s grandfather Brian Hinkley is a coach for the Amateur Boxing Association and runs free OzBox sessions at the Allenton gym. OzBox founder Steve Osbaldeston said: “We are very excited about the positive start we have had at the Allenton Boxing Academy and the coaches are working hard with the young people to ensure the gym is successful. “Chantelle she is a true star and we are delighted she has chosen our gym to continue her brilliant career. “She will be an inspiration to other young girls coming to the Allenton gym in showing that it is not just boys who enjoy and can excel at this sport.” OzBox was set up in Chesterfield ten years ago to help improve fitness and self-confidence in young people aged nine to 19-years-old as well as prevent anti-social behaviour. The Allenton Boxing Academy runs OzBox sessions on Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30pm to 9pm and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings for boxing sessions. New volunteers are wanted at the Allenton Boxing Academy to run sessions of OzBox.
