It has been reported by Sky Sports News that the Pinnacle consortium, which is hoping to buy Southampton, has had talks with the former England and Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan.

Keegan played for Southampton between 1980 and 1982. Another former Saints favourite, the midfielder Matt le Tissier, is a backer of the Pinnacle group of investors. A picture of Le Tissier apparently meeting Kevin Keegan appeared in local media this morning.

The consortium entered a period of exclusivity three weeks ago, during which time they could not be gazumped by other potential investors interested in buying the cash-strapped club. The exclusivity deadline is due to expire tomorrow.

The current Saints manager, the Dutchman Mark Wotte, said earlier this week: "The club has to appoint a manager and I hope I can continue in that role but, if not, then they have to make a decision about that."

Southampton will start the League One season on -10 points after their parent company entered administration in April.

Will be the worst appointment of the season if they get Keegan in, he relys on getting 5 goals, forget what's going on at the back. Where is Southamptons firepower that will get these goals? As Elvis once said dom dom dom dom dom.
