No, she just looked, without any expression and moved forwards without actually moving. I can't say she walked, she just moved from one side of the room to the other.

I'd be lying if I said it was scary, it just seemed so matter of fact and ordinary but it's a wierd feeling trying to prove your own eyes wrong.

This Most Haunted clip is interesting, it's a place I've wanted to visit for years - but who/what makes that horrible noise at 5:35? I'd love to know what exactly is there.

Oh please, please LR don't say to actually believe tripe programs like that?! Seriously? Even the "mediums" don't believe in that, it's just a way of (fraudulently) making money.

I know you're woman but I always had you down as being a bit more intelligent then that. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Well thanks Martyn 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

All I can do is speak from experience, some of MH's programmes were truly crap, I thought it was interesting because nobody picked up on that noise, instead they were all focused on the obvious.

And how can I not believe in ghosts, I've seen one and I saw it for long enough to be able to remember the detail on her clothes. It wasn't just some fleeting image you can put down to imagination or the mind playing tricks. How can I not trust in what my own eyes see?

If I was on that program, I'd be Kieran. The sceptic who tries to explain what it was and I'd like someone to explain to me what it was I saw and how they can be so sure it wasn't a ghost.

I looked at that bit and wasn't it just the bloke in the background moaning? A couple of seconds later someone said "Are you ok [whateverhisnamewas]?"

I think part of it is realising just how easily the human mind can be tricked, not just fleetingly, not just when under influence, under stress but when we think we are completely lucid and are sure of what we're seeing. It's actually quite amazing in itself!

LR our eyes are easily decieved as is our concious mind. Never fully trust either of them.

I personally don't believe in ghosts, partly because I don't believe in a soul and to imagine that after one dies, after the brain "switches off" that something can still emerge to me is fanciful at best. I treat it the same as I would treat the idea of heaven or hell.

Whenever a scientist says it's all in the mind, I think that's a bit of a kop out. That can't be science, as he can't prove or disprove that they exist. So surely then that statement becomes nothing more than opinion?

well not really, it has been shown our eyes do deceive us especially when we are younger, in the dark in mourning etc. Our mind is very fragile. Also many scientists argue that when a part of our brain is damaged that affects us and the actions we can commit too, therefore our actions are controlled by our brain and what decisions we decide. When we die and our brain switches off how can we still be partake in any actions?

Mmm, tell us more about it. Where? When? Outcome?

And the noise on the film, to be fair maybe it was the guy you mean or one of the others for that matter. I'm not sure though, it strikes me as an odd noise to hear when everyones in a bit of a panic?

Well the last time I looked, my brain wasn't damaged 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> plus I have to say I don't really care what scientists say. They cannot prove one way or the other that they exist or not, but I know what I saw. I wasn't drunk, tired or anything, it was just there.

It's one of them mysteries I guess none of us will be certain of till after we've pegged it. If I pop me clogs soon, I'll come back and haunt ya's all 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

No, your brain doesn't have to be damaged for it to be decieved but when someones brain is damaged it affects the functions they can perform. This in my mind shows that without our brain we are useless, dead people's brains stop working it would be like taking the harddrive out of a computer and expecting it to work. When an arguments strength rests on you cannot disprove it you know it doesn't have much evidence going for it. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, ghosts are an extraordinary claim yet there is no solid evidence to back it up apart from witness testimony which is unreliable. I don't believe in a soul and I don't believe in an afterlife and there is no evidence which I have come across which has contradicted me. Also living forever would be very boring 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

The very concept of ghosts and most things (by definition) "paranormal" violate the laws of physics and there are so well tested they have to build massive billion pound equipment just the test the very edges of them.

The biggest argument against is that they're literally just not possible.

The explanations where the cause is "in the mind" aren't just saying "naaaahhh we don't believe you, we just think you made it up!", it's based on existing research into the human brain. We are understanding more and more about how the mind works. Not just psychology but how the visual cortex works, how the brain stitches all its inputs together into one whole "experience".

There was a fascinating Horizon series, on last year I think, about this whole topic (how the mind interprets the world, not ghosts).

It was eye opening how much we think we see/hear is actually "invented" by the mind. All the time. Right now.

He was actually just a local history expert they interviewed about a house that was supposedly "haunted", nothing too exciting. It was still pretty embarrassing actually, he (like me) is the sort of person who'd start running when TV cameras come around, still amazed he did it.

Did you watch the Derren Brown Seance program? That was fantastic (as is most things he does).

Okay, true story for you all. It's about me:

- Wrist watches, which others can use without problem, will be slow about 5-10 minutes just being 24 hours in my hand.

- Those annoying alarm gates in shops (if they do have some precise name, please tell me..) are very often alarming eventhough I don't have anything what should start it.

- I've broken about 50-100 streetlamps, just walking by. Worst case was 3/10, but then I was extremely angry.

And like YR, I'm very much in to science, and I hope someday I get to know what kind of freak Magneto I am.

Confession done, will you burn me now?
