If Clough gets another 3 years...

Not this season pal.

You will probably be one of those that criticise is a round about way, like saying Pearson is crap and should not play, same with Savage when he was here, but seem to forget the fact that Clough played them both when fit, was he wrong., if so how many time did you criticise him openly.

How many times do so called blind faith people moan about formations, or substitutions, who are they criticising, would not be the manager maybe ?

Honestly some of you make my co ck laugh 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Woah mate calm down. You say I'm "probably" one of those...but clearly you've already made your mind up to if I am or not by saying, "Honestly some of you make my co ck laugh".

So on that, I'm going to say, you're wrong. I'm not one of them. I went mad at Nigel Clough last season for playing Pearson, Savage and Roberts. I went mad at the bl00dy stupid formations that weren't working week-in week-out. Yes I blamed it on Nigel but no I didn't want him to lose his job over it...thats the difference between me and you.

Right, yeah, I'm on the Nigel Clough band wagon, as its known. And part of being on this wagon is letting small things go, things that aren't going to get us relegated, because at the end of the day, thats what its all about for the first couple of seasons. On this wagon we like stability, we like to build for a better future, we like to have the same manager for more than a year so that we can achieve both of these. I saw Nigel Clough build a BRILLIANT conference side at Burton. I saw him get them promoted twice. And I'm seeing the same being done at Derby. The fact that his name is Clough just adds to that, and the board knew that. But one thing, they wouldn't have had hired him if he was a **** manager.

So then mate...down to you. Theres room for plenty more on the Nigel Clough band wagon if you like? Oh, and lifes alot more fun on it too. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I am not on the Nigel Clough anything

So you are another one of the Clough supporters, not a Derby supporter, akin to "Center Forward", if so then I am ten times the Derby County supporter you are pal, nay one hundred times the supporter you are.

I never wanted him here in the first place.

If he goes you will go ( Good Idea ).

I'll still be here like I have been for 60 years, before his Dad and afterNigel, (maybe ). 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

I didn't even know there was a Derby County before Nigel Clough. I had already assumed that when he left, that the club just disappeared.

Deep in the bowels of Pride Park, smiffy, “Fan Of The Year 1956”, ponders the mysteries of deep time, the merits of 4-2-3-1, and why his cock makes such a funny noise.

So if Clough had gone to the Scum from Burton, would you now be a Red Dog, or if he had gone to DYS would you have been on their forum now, or maybe even the Foxes.

There are quite a few on here that would, and quite frankly I have no time what so ever for those people.

Have a nice day . 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Don't be so ridiculous, I cannot imagine anyone who would swap the club they support to follow a manager. People followed his progress at Burton because they are a local club, for the same reason I keep up with Mansfield and Alfreton's results.

If Nigel had gone to Forest or Leicester, then it would make no difference to my opinion of either club, but of course my opinion of Nigel would be different. But this is no different to anyone, if Stimac had been at forest, or if Collymore had been at Derby, then no doubt I'd have different opinions there as well.

Nigel is our manager, he's doing a damn fine job under difficult conditions, he's built a good team around him, and the future is brighter now than it was when he first joined. Of course he makes mistakes, but he has earned a new contract (I'm hoping he gets one) and deserves more time.

It is NOT ridiculous, there are people who openly admit to following Burton home and away for ten years under Clough, and now they are here, and when he goes, if he stays in management they will change their allegiance again.

Anyway must rush, have a game to go to.

People?

There was ONE Burton/Derby fan who might have said something on another forum that could have been interpreted that way, I guess.

Can’t remember any others like Centre Forward.

something about if we win today it's our best start for 40 years. I wonder who was the manager then?

This is not about the lad who supported Burton Albion, Smiffy it's about our club, the one that you supposedly chose and the one you are supposed to support unconditionally.

I can only think you hated it so much when he ran rings round the Derby side, as a player at Forest, that nothing he ever does will make you forget that.

That's your prejudice not other peoples. It's not their fault you cant change you views.

Enjoy the game, even if we win :-)

Smiffy, you claim to be a Derby 'supporter', but I'm yet to read a post from you that supports the team, the manager or the club. People go to football for different reasons, and if yours is to have a critical eye on everything, then that's fine, but don't call yourself a supporter, because it's simply not true. Maybe call yourself an attendee.

Your views on Clough, whilst baffling, are fair enough, but at some point you must acknowledge he's doing a good job. I've been ultra critical of some of the things he did last year so it's not a big one way Nigel Clough love in by any means. I don't want to judge us until fifteen games or so, but it's clear to see we're building a team with great spirit, and are really hard to beat at the moment. Anyway, you've given your age away a bit above, and I guess you're too old to be told what to think, but there you go.

Going to Derby, even though we're winning, is becoming less and less enjoyable. There was a time when we'd win, go home, be happy and look forward to the next match. Now I listen to someone on Radio Derby saying 'yes but we've not really played anyone yet, and the only team with a decent striker was Burnley, and we lost'. What about Blackpool - Kevin Phillips? Birmingham - Wood, Burke, King? Of the 8 games we've played, two were against relegated teams and one has been against a team that were in the play offs last year, losing to the eventual winners. Have we really played 'no-one' yet? People are concerned about the lack of goals the strikers are scoring, but Davies has 4 - one every other game. If he carried that on, he'd get 23 goals. In addition we've got goals coming from midfield. Surely it's a big positive that we're not so reliant on our strikers for goals?

Anyway, rant over. I'm just pretty happy we've got Clough in charge. So to get back to the thread title - 'If Clough gets another three years' - I'll be delighted.

THE OFFICIAL RAMNUT VIEW ON NIGEL CLOUGH

He made some mistakes in his first two seasons - partly out of a Gregoryesque desire to impose himself - he did some silly things, and made some silly comments - especially re Commons and Cywka.

My view then was that he was going about the team rebuilding too slowly.

We didn't want another revolution but he needed to move more quickly to establish a new core of 12-15 good young players.

Although its early days this season, I think he might just have done it....Bailey, Brayford, and the now rehabilitated Cywka last year....nine new signings this summer....and the balls to play O'Brien and Hendrick and suddenly its looking good.

We've got the core of new young players that we needed - Fielding, Brayford, OBrien, Bailey, Hendrick, Cywka, Bryson, Ward, Robinson, Davies, and possibly Maguire and Legzdins.......plus the sheer quality of Shackell......we're getting close.

He now deserves a new deal on merit and not because of his name.

He also needs another crack at the transfer market next year to add the missing pieces.

He just needs to keep going....two, three, maybe four more good young players...and he's cracked it..

In fact we're facing a new scenario now.

If he slips out of the top 6 he'll be accused of blowing it like last year.....if we go up he might just have achieved too soon - like BD did.

But for the next few months I'm just going to enjoy watching this bright new young team playing without fear and see where it takes us. We now have the basis of a good TEAM, with competition for places.

The 4-4-2 played yesterday seems to work.

The midfield isn't so crowded and the strikers aren't so outnumbered.

If the key players stay fit and we get a striker who can create a goal out of nothing.... then we could just be a force to be beckoned with.

He deserves a new contract based on what he has done to the staff. He's saved the club millions yet kept us in this league, and whats more, competitive. If we sold all our players tomorrow we would get a lot more money than we would have for the squad 2 years ago. Based on that alone he deserves it.

Barnes at his best, Commons, and Hulse. Maybe Addison, but he's a youth product so doesn't count. But yeah if we had those 3 in the squad now I think it'd be an improvement tbh. Noone else though
