A number of clubs are weighing up a summer move for Norwich winger Lee Croft, skysports.com understands.

Croft's current deal expires at the end of the season and it is likely he will leave Carrow Road on a free transfer.

The news has alerted a host of clubs to Croft's possible availability and there is expected to be a battle for his signature in the summer.

Croft has been one of Norwich's most consistent performers despite their struggles this term and his showings have not gone unnoticed.

Premier League trio Bolton, Middlesbrough and Sunderland, as well as Championship duo Derby and Ipswich, are all thought to be monitoring Croft's situation.

Canaries winger target for Rams

Derby County have their sights on Norwich City’s right winger Lee Croft.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at Carrow Road and the Rams are believed to have held talks with the player.

Manager Nigel Clough is looking to bring in up to six new faces for next season.

Strengthening the defence is a priority and the Rams are interested in signing Burton Albion centre-half Jake Buxton and Crewe right-back John Brayford, who also played for Clough at Burton.

A right-sided midfielder/winger is also high on Clough’s wish-list and Croft seems to fit the bill.

Norwich have been relegated to League One but Croft was the fans’ player of the year.

He made 44 appearances this season and his record for the Canaries is 131 games and nine goals since arriving in July 2006 in a £600,000 deal from Manchester City, where the Wigan-born player started his career.

He joined City as a 12-year-old schoolboy and represented England at every youth level up to under-20.

The first of his 32 games for City was against Bolton Wanderers in March 2005, Kevin Keegan’s final game as manager.

Right wing has been a problem position for Derby this season.

A number of players have been tried there, including Giles Barnes, Nacer Barazite, Mile Sterjovski, Barry Bannan and Luke Varney.

Barnes is on loan at Fulham and Barazite and Bannan are to return to their clubs, Arsenal and Aston Villa, respectively.

Varney is a striker who can play wide and Sterjovski is thought to be among the list of players available for transfer.

Rams confirm interest in Norwich winger Croft

DERBY County manager Nigel Clough has confirmed his interest in Norwich City’s right winger Lee Croft.

Croft, 23, is out of contract this summer and set to leave Norwich who have been relegated to League One.

“Lee’s on a free transfer in June. He’s a proven outside right and it’s a position we’re looking to fill, so we’ll be holding talks with him and his representatives to see if we can get a deal,” said Clough.

"Nacer Barazite has gone back to Arsenal, Gary Teale’s very comfortable on the left-hand side at the moment, so we don’t have a recognised outside right.

"Steve Davies can go out there, so can Kris Commons, but I think they’d prefer to play elsewhere.

“I think he (Croft) puts crosses in and when we’ve got the likes of Rob Hulse and Chris Porter in the penalty area, then they need some service.”

Croft joined Norwich from Manchester City in the summer of 2006 for £600,000.

looks like we got our man - nothing official though.

It is being reported that Derby County have won the race to sign Lee Croft from Norwich, who becomes a free agent on June 24th.

The ex-Man City winger joined Norwich in 2006 for around £700,000 but will his contract runs out this summer. Norwich will not be renewing now that they have been relegated.

He was considered a great prospect in his younger days as a schoolboy with Man City, and in fact he holds more caps than anyone else at that level. But he suffered a couple of injuries after joining Norwich and has been overlooked by England since making one appearance for the U20’s in 2006.

It was thought that there were a few Premiership teams interested in his services, but Derby were the first team to approach him with an offer, and Skysports believes that he will sign for them in the next few days.

Wahooo, happy about this one has the Championship experience and a position we were desperate to fill.

I know Commons has played well in the hole but I think he should be moved back onto the left wing, Commons and Croft whipping balls in for Hulse and Porter.

Not yet Dan, Warnock has been quoted as saying he was interested but he's been told he's joining Derby. His contract won't expire till June 1st I think it is so I would of thought in the next week it will be confirmed.

The 23-year-old winger spent three years at Carrow Road, scoring nine goals in 131 games, but has left the club following their relegation.

I read last or this week on a Moxey article that Clough has flown out on holiday to America, give the guy a break!

What's the point in paying the lad another months wages if he isn't staying, Norwich need to watch there pennys after relegation.
